Tonsilitis tips

Anybody ever had tonsilitis before? Just that I've had a sore throat for the last 2 days, finally got round to looking in the mirror and they're all inflamed with 7 big white spots on 'em (yeah, nice).

So anyways, I phoned for an appointment with the doc and they can't fit me in until 3pm on Friday!! Which is a bit of the joke, so now I've got to phone first thing every morning to see if I can get an emergency slot.

So back to the topic, could this be tonsilitis? I've also had a really bad headache and my eyes have been sensitive to light in the mornings. But aren't I too old for tonsilitis (22)? Thought only kids got it? Maybe only those with a mental age below 12 or someting

Appreciate any advice. Ta in advance.

It's defiantely Tonsilitis, especially with the white spots. I was getting it quite regularly at one stage, so I was given a referral to rip them out...Which I did a couple of years ago...But I must say, that getting your tonsils out was the most miserable thing I'v had done in my whole life!

Sorry to put you off, but you won't get Tonsilitis for the rest of your life. It's proabaly worth the 2 weeks putting up with the operation, than a whole lifetime.

And I also think that you having to wait to be seen by a doctor like that is a joke!

I've had it too, but there's no need to remove your tonsils right away, because your tonsils protect your lungs from the dirt that you breathe in...

You know what helps to kill some of the pain?
--> Swallow some honey..it has some sort of natural antidote against the basteria

--> Try to gorgle with warm water with salt in it, or warm water with a dissolved aspirine in it....

--> wear a scarf to protect your troat

--> don't consume anything made out of milk...unless you have to...

Good luck!!!!!!

That's true...but I had Tonsilitis 3 times in one year, and the doctors recommended I rip them out, and I used to get it quite often when I was younger. They wouldn't take them out when I WAS younger because of the fact like you say they capture toxins etc, but you can live without them fine of course.

Thanks for all the tips guys, just for an update, I woke up in agony this morning so back on the phone to the docs and after 10 minutes of moaning and being passed around I managed to get the emergency slot.

It's Bacterial Tonsilitis (no idea if that's any different from normal tonsilitis), but doc said no need to have them out unless I keep getting it. So I got a big box of penicillin and sent on my way.

UK National Health Service sucks, I'd much rather pay less tax and get out medical cover, at least you'd get seen quicker.

On a lighter note though, I had a craving for salt n vin. crisps, took me 40 mins to eat them. I had to chew each one up into mush so I could swallow

If you do end up getting your tonsils out one day, you can't eat anything but mushy stuff, and they force you to eat toast so that you can break up the blood clots in you're throat!
