Ghost Smilie how long do you normally mix for?

Just curious as to how long you guys normally spend behind the decks when you have a mix. Do you prefere 1 hour relentless tune after tune sessions or marathon 6 hour sets locked up in your bedroom?

as much as I love locking myself away and building up a set it just doesn't happen these days. I either mess up a couple of mixes in a row, or just generally not like the direction its going (due to lack of new tunes) and lose motivation.

Havent had more than a hour and half mix for a good while now.

just curious about your guys mixing habbits.

I think the longest I've mixed was ~3hrs. On average no more than 1hr and not everyday. I lose interest fast since I just stare at a blank wall when I spin and I find it hard to fit even an hour of spin time due to work, social life, etc.

It all depends on my motivation. I usually play for about 45 minutes but sometimes i get carried away and play for maybe 2 hours. Though, two hours is max at home. At a gig, i prefer always to play with a fellow dj. That way, i won't get bored and the set gets more "flavour". After all, 6-7 hours is a long time to spinn even if the music is good.

Lately, I've been doing about 70 minutes every other day and recording it.. just to see how it comes out...

The longest I've ever done was 9 hours at a party @ my friends house. He lives on a farm about an 1hr out of town and has a few big parties each year... I spun for 9 hours straight with maybe 3 or 4 small breaks through the night.. By midway thru the night I sounded better than I ever had. Def. was one of the best nights out DJing for me...

But usually there's at least 3 or 4 of dj'ing so we usually break it up thru the night.

I suck big time, my beatmatching is awful "getting better though" and I don't have more than 40 records but I spend in my room 2-5 hours almost everyday. Someday I'll do it right and then I'll spin for a londer period of time .

There are some from a few parties up @ there house on the site...

Nothing special... but if you want to check them out...go right ahead.

It's like getting back to nature and partying @ the same time.. They have a small trailer in the back that is the main area where the hook up everything...There's times when someone's dj's, the'll be drum circles going on and people playing keyboards/guitar @ the same time...
I don't bring my tables & stuff up... just use what they have, but still it's fun! Going up there is always a good break from going to clubs all the time

I'm actually in the middle of updating my site, so it's kind of a mess... but here's the link

On average, I usually mix anywhere from 60 to 80 mins. As TwiloNYC said, it gets boring looking at a wall...so by the time 80 or 90 mins hits, I'm ready to stop because my tune selection begins to slip.

i mix for about 45 minutes every other day, or every couple of days by myself......it does get boring staring at a wall, but i hung up a van gogh picture--that's even boring....my boyfriend and i and one of our friends spin sometimes for like 4 hours, taking turns and that works out great.....we get breaks, and get to watch eachother and learn, since we have only been doing it for 2 months....people come over and hang out and we spin all night....and get better - i hope

At work- 4 hours - 3 times a week. and once a week (saturdays) is 5 and a half hours

Outside of that maybe the odd 30 mins or something every now and then- but doing it at work is more than enough.
Besides- playing in the bedroom is kinda boring when you are used to playing to packed clubs.lol

i usually just start out meaning to do a few mixes and maybe play a couple new tunes that i got. sometimes it just ends after a couple mixes, if i am "off" that day, but sometimes i totally rip shit up and then i play for like an hour and half to two hours. two hours is pretty much tops at my house because i either get bored, run out of new tunes, dont like the direction i am going in, or get too drunk. working on my 3rd beer i am the man, after i'm done with number 5 its all down hill

I practice for a hour or so at least every other day. I often won't do a full mix but will have lots of ideas on a running list I keep, and will experiment pulling several of those together. (Last nights experiment was to see if I could mix Deux > Ian Browns F.E.A.R Unkle Mix) > Ed Stone 6 Feet underground > ColdPlay Clocks (Trifactor Mix), now I've got a new 38 Minute mix set).

I play using Vinyl, CD's and Traktor on my laptop, so running out of tunes to practice with ain't a problem as I'll download to audition stuff I want to experiment with. If it sounds good then I'll buy the music. I never play a track live at a gig without 'owning' the track first, so sometimes ideas get shelved for several months while I try to find that rare Promo remix on acetate. It gets expensive though and I'm cutting back as my average month on vinyl and CD's runs $400.00

I don't get bored coz one night I might feel like a good dose of Hard Trance the next might be Breaks, the following might be leftfield-Downtempo, the night after might be Euro-Dance, followed by a Tribal-Tech night.

I don't play live REAL often when I do its for 2-3 hours and its mostly gigs up in Seattle coz almosty all my stuff is U.K. European, The local Dance - Trance scene in Portland Oregon, is tiny, very narrow and way too commercial, If it ain't playing on the local Dance music station (and I use the term loosely) they ain't listening. Take the same set to Seattle or Vancouver BC and the atmosphere is electric. When I practice its about getting better so theres always a challenge.
