Been listening to electronic music for quite some time now, started out with old school house, then hardcore, and now listening to trance, progressive and techno.

The last three genres all have their specific qualities, but prog and techno just seem to have much more possibilities as far as mixing is concerned. Trance is often mixed too straightforward, just outro's and intro's blended together, even by the likes of Tiësto and Armin.. the problem seems to be that most trance songs have their own build-ups and break-downs, thus making it harder to create a real build-up throughout the set.

Personally i think techno is the most interesting genre for mixing, given the constant loop-based structure of the tracks.

Dunno if this makes sense, but if it does i'm curious about your opinions.

I think Trance is the most difficult genre to mix, because there are songs completely different and because of its very particular melodic style, you have to select carefully if songs are compatible to mix them.

Two weeks ago I bought Tiësto - Nyana, and is very amazing how in the Outdoor CD He starts with prog-trance songs and in the end the gig ends very uplifting

Because trance is more difficult, I consider it more interesting

I think trance is 'hardest' to mix, unlike progessive or techno, trance only gives a small window to pull out a mix.. maybe 2 min tops...
on the other hand, prgressive is awesume.. the intros and outros are long as hell, giving you more and more possibilities tweaking the EQ and such.. also, there are so many layers, so the tracks set them selves up for a great mix..
that being said, i like mixing progressive more than trance..
but i spin trance and some techno becasue prog is sometimes to slow for me,. but i abosolutly love the music.

Is it me or in Tiesto's - Nyana, on the first disc, in one (or more) of the techno tracks he plays, he backspins the record a couple times??? I really dont think u can do that w/ Trance nor progressive.

are you people kidding me? trance has to be one of the easier genres to mix. know i can't disagree that prog is probably a lot easier then trance, but personally i think something like breakbeats is hard to mix. at least i have trouble mixing breakbeat tunes into other tunes...too hard to match up the beat (if anyone has tips lemme know hehe). also i've heard that goa is especially hard to mix...don't know myself though..

I think jungle and rap are interesting to mix.

Techno, deep house, hard house are fairly easy

Sorry if I'm being rather obvious but breakbeat doesn't really subtract a beat it just adds one (offbeat) beat so you match up two and the third one is off and there is nothing you can really do about it. I am not a dj so what the feck do i know

lmao yeah it is painfully obvious you dont know what you are talking about breakbeats are by far hardest genre to mix, their bpms are haywire, hardcore is easiest, and trance is probably what i would put in as the mid range.
