Not sure why this tune got such bad press. Collaborations between big producers tend not to result in tunes that are the sum of their parts. Slipstream is an interesting track becasuse the Airwave elements and the AvB elements are so distinct. However, I think the first half of the song is much better than the second half. About two minutes in a noticeably Airwave-esque synth is brought in, and combined with the pounding kick (which also seems largely Lolo-influenced) there's the potential for a nice dark trancer. But then it breaks and the fluffy Armin bits come in (not to say that fluffy is always bad) and dwarf the earlier melody to an extent.
It's still a nicely layered track and better than the solo tracks on Armin's decidedly mediocre album, but I agree upon hearing the first three minutes they perhaps left something on the table. Of course, that's simply a personal preference and thus I wouldn't go as far as to say it "could have been better". It probably deserves more credit, then, but TA is never particularly objective at the best of times so I suppose we can't hope for too much.
