i recorded a mix today, and i left the bass on my hi-fi on +1, so the recording is a little bass heavy. Is there anyway i can reduce the bass, preferably using soundforge? also this isn't the only problem. One of my phono cables were a little lose, so the mix is recorded a little bit louder on the right channel. Is there anyway to even it out?

Well, You can use low pass filters to take the bass down, but I doubt that you can do this selectively for just the bass beat. It will tone down everything in the frequency range of that filter. I think that you can do this on soundforge, though you might need some of the tools that are expensive to purchase.

As far as fixing the volume levels on the channels, the best you can do is select each channel individualy and then normalize them individualy as well. If it is still off after this, you have a volume function that you can raise or lower the selected channel by a certain number of decibles.

just redo the mix... honestly, a redone mix will sound 10 times better than a mix you will have to pass through filters to bring the low levels down.

i don't agree with that at all. i always downmix my recordings and run them through a mastering eq. that way you get a good clean, level, professional sounding mix. soundforge is ok to master in but wavelab is better (imho). a high pass filter will remove some of the bass but it's not your best choice. try running it though a spectral enhancer plug-in. you'll be able to brighten the recording and take out the boomy, muddy sound of the bass drum without sacrificing the rich, full sound of the bass line. cheers mate.

thx for the info. there is noway im not gonna redo the mix. the overall quality is ok, just a tad bass heavy, and slightly louder in 1 channel. from what i hav read this seems to be fixable so i shall hav a play about with it. thx

in soundforge you should be able to see where the tracks have a heavier bass. highlight each track that has the higher bass then us soundforges built in eq to remove the same db of bass that you added on the mixer. that way you can adjust each track individually. then run the whole thing through you mastering eq or spectral enhancer. cheers.
