no energy in track. advise?

hi peeps. just started on my first ever track this morning (yay!) really enjoying it so far but ive hit a problem, the total lack of energy in my track. and to b honest it isnt really my track, i stole the melodie off of john askew - skylab cus i didnt plan on spending all day on it(but i did lol)so now its turned into a remix. ive got a brilliant energetic breakdown that kinda leads to know where with a really bad anti climax. and i havent got a clue what to put in there to make it better.

so far its not a very complex song, so far just the percussion (kicks, snare, hi hats etc.)
the melodie of skylab
a bassline which is also in the just folows the melody.
a really crap pad that sounds more like a haloween type of pad now that i think about it.

and another overall problem, it sounds really muddy (hope you know what i mean) how do i also fix this?

and thats pretty much it, just cant think of anything to add to it, and it sound so plain and empty. ive really got adicted to doing this so far but this has totaly hulted my progress. any advice would b great thanks in advance.

Secondary melody and bass lines always give a nice boost to a track, as well as more percs (you can never have too much percs ). Try listening to some pro stuff - underneath the huge lead are usually loads of little things happening that you might not even notice first...

That's all the info I can give without hearing the track in question.

King

thicken the bass, give it variation

chorus the lead, that adds perspective and makes the track a tad bit intresting...

percussion...er...um...try delays, compress the lot together n shit

Dont overdo the buildup at the end of the breakdown. If u do, the tune will suddenly sound empty after the snare stops.
Make sure not to turn the snare up too loud and eq the low frequencies out of it.
During the buildup use automation on the main synths eq, filter envelope (sustain and decay), and filter envelope amount to make it sound progressivly shorter with less and less high (or low with a high pass filter) frequencies. U can also put a filter on any hats and do the same thing to them. Dont make any crashes too loud, and dont put too many in.
Then when the buildup ends u can put it all back to normal. Shouldnt be any anticlimax after that.

Add tons of hats and shit. Add delay to some, eq them, maybe flange some etc. Just fuck about with it a lot.
Dont expect anything u make, especially leads, fx and basslines to sound decent. Thatll take ages to happen. So dont get too pissed off if ur tune is shite, everyones are at first.

Finish the tune, even if u dont like it, and then start a new 1. Keep making them, ull get noticably better with every 1.
