IRC Trojan being spread: read!
http://securityresponse.symantec.co...trojan.fgt.html
It starts with someone posting a link to a girly picture, something like "http://www.WEBSITE.com/jessica_alba.jpg -> wow!" When you open that link in IE, you download a Trojan that then activates a mIRC script for you that causes you to spam that same url across the IRC channels your in, without you being able to see yourself sending it, thus spreading the worm.
It then prodceeds to bring down any firewalls you may have, delete critical system files, turns your IE home page to gay pr0n, etc. If you downloaded it... well, your fucked! You have no choice but to format at this point, your system is hosed.
Be careful, even if someone doesnt send it to you in IRC. In the past its also been something like britney.jpg. In fact, I'd avoid all girly pictures like that unless your positive where its coming from.
Btw, Mozilla is unaffected by this. I reccomend you use Mozilla anyways, its much better, not to mention FAR FAR more secure. I clicked the link myself like a moron but Mozilla stopped the trojan.
