You can save yourself some money on an amp and buy Amplified reference monitors that way you kill 2 birds with one stone. Good reference monitors would be: M-Audio BX8 ($479 pair) and Event TR8 ($499 pair), the best would be: Mackie HR624 or HR824 ($400 or $700 per speaker), Tannoy System 600A or 800A ($1400 or $1900 pair)

the amp i saw would only cost me $329.99 before taxes and the features were...
Rugged 2U chassis
Forced-air fan cooling
Electronically balanced XLR inputs
Touch-proof binding post and SpeakonŽ outputs
LEDs to indicate clipping, power and fault conditions
570W per channel @ 2 ohm stereo
400W per channel @ 4 ohm stereo
260W per channel @ 8 ohm stereo
800W @ 8 ohm bridged mono
3-year, no-fault, fully transferable guarantee
now besides the warrenty...is this a good amp.....and is that all i would need to power a set...or would i need a second one....?

www.123dj.com has good prices. they are based in Chicago. I have bought pretty much all my equipment from them.

as to your setup. I don't know if I'd go with the Technics MK5.
don't get me wrong, i would love to have a pair of those, but if you want top of the line you should go with the Numark TTX-1's. They are cheaper and have even more features than the Tech Mk5's. I'm a big fan of Tech's. I have a pair of Mk2's myself and i love them. but if you want the best bang for you buck you are better going off with the numarks.
or you could buy the numarks and use your left over money to buy one of the new technics CD turntables.
if you don't mind spending the money tho, you will be very pleased with the tech mk5's.

i hear many good things about technics....but rarly do i hear anything about numarks....
i was originaly going to go with 2 numark TT200's....
they are about 400 dollars cheaper then the 2 tech mk5's.....
i was just not sure...just wanted to go with a safer product....
how long would TT200's last under normal wear and tear.... or is that a problem with those tables....
also...are TT200's pretty out of date....or would the make for a good begginner set...

if i were you i'd get the 1200's for sure. i mean really, when you go to play at a club what are they going to have? 1200's. i would also get reference monitors like vlad said. you'll be happier in the long run. i wouldn't worry about an amp and speakers to play a house party with just yet. it will take you a bit to get good enough to play live in front of a crowd. the studio monitors will allow you to "grow". you mixes will be tighter and cleaner with monitors because they are much more accurate. you'll be able to record a promo cd with monitors a lot easier then you would a "party system", since you can't hear your mistakes as well on a "party system". also, if you decide to move into producing you absolutely need a set of monitors. it's just a much better investment for a beginner and it will leave you with a few bucks left over to buy some vinyl. cheers.

i agree with vio, go with the technics. the numarks do have more features, but their quality/stability is questionable. i've read a thread about the motor overheating and burning out after long usage.

most threads i read from ttx owners say the extra features are useless. the bpm counter is way off most of the time. the pitch % display is useless. it does look pretty though.

i also agree that you should skip the amp and get a pair of monitors. id go with mackie hr624 / hr824. avb uses em so they gotta be good right :0

please dont buy from 123dj.com, they are one of the problem sites that alot of us TA's complained about.

Places to buy:

djmart.com
pssl.com
planetdj.com
8thstreet.com

Those are all good sites, their prices are good as well.
