OEM decks ---> Better then Technics SL ( ! / ? ) (made by Stanton, Reloop and more...

I've searched the forum, but couldn't find a descent topic about these new decks.

Yesterday I posted a little story about these new “OEM” turntables and I received 2 PM’s with questions. That’s why I’m opening this topic.

I think a lot DJ’s still don’t have played on these decks or haven’t even heard of it. And that’s a pity because they are better (IMO) then the Technics SL series or a Numark TT-X1.
I don’t want to start a discussion about the SL vs. TT-X1. I want a discussion about the OEM vs. SL/TT-X1.

So why do I speak about “OEM” and “these decks”. Well, there are different manufacturers who produce this table, but they are al the same and that’s why I call it OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).

So which brands do produce this deck and how is it called:
Synq XTRM1
Omnitronic DD5250
Akiama DJ4000 Acura
AMDJ HTD4.5
Citronic PD45
Reloop RP6000MK5
Stanton STR8-150/ST150*

* Only the Stanton is a little different compared with the rest of the list. This one has a square shape and some buttons are on another position. It also has a “key-lock” (useless…. I think)

I have 2 SL-1200MK2 at the moment but last Friday I’ve tested the OEM and I’m in love at the deck.
If I should buy new decks I would buy this one because it’s just better then a SL or TT-X1.

- The torque is awesome, more then 4,5kg/cm2

- When you touch the platter (slow it down or speed it up) the platter goes back to the original speed as smooth as a….. (I can’t say that here ) but a SL has a nervous behaviour. If you slow it down it speeds up again but it will get a higher speed then the original speed for a moment. Maybe it’s only for 0,3 sec and maybe you are used to it but once you’ve played with these baby’s you will notice the difference!

- The tone arm is equal to the SL, and we al know that the SL tone arm is better then a TT-X1. And some people will say that the TT-X1 also has a straight arm and that that is an advantage. Buy a Vestax if you want to scratch!

- Pitch slider: The MK2 has an annoying quartz lock and a click when you come near the 0% point. Between -0,5% and 0,5% the speed doesn’t change because of it. It has a big “dead” point. The OEM also has the quartz lock, but it’s a little click and the “dead” point is much smaller.

- Sound: No doubt about it that the SL has the most silent engine of al decks. Most people don’t even notice it. But there is a buzz when you touch the platter and change the speed of it. The OEM also has it a little bit, a bit more then a SL and equal to the TT-X1.

- Damping: I’ve heard it’s not as good as the SL and more like a TT-X1, but you’ll need a very hard, deep and long bass to get a reverb I think. Although I’ve heard complaints about the damping of a TT-X1.

If you compare these most important features of all decks I can only say that the OEM beats the SL and TT-X1. There is only one reason why I’m not selling my SL’s and that’s because the SL is the standard and it’s also a very good deck. I’m used to spin on it and when I would buy a OEM I’ll get used to that one and then I’ll get a problem because when I’m going to spin in a club I have to spin on the SL and…….. I think you all get my point.

And another advantage for the OEM: THE PRICE!!!!!

If my English sucks: sorry, and that’s why I give only a small summary of the most important points

I don't know if there is a good english review, but here is a link to a dutch review. There are some pictures of the OEM, so you can watch them.
The link

Which TA has got experience with the OEM and how do you think about it?

I just found another topic with a discussion about it:
http://www.tranceaddict.com/forums/...threadid=138360

There is also a discussion about reliability, and that’s a good point because the Technics a very reliable and have proven themselves and we can’t say that about the OEM decks.

it's funny that you mention this... a couple of years ago I bought an Omnitronic DD5250-LTD (limited edition with blue leds). It was cheaper than an SL, and I was told that in it's design, omnitronic took apart some SL1200's and attempted to improve upon it, and make it cheaper. The torque on it was higher than an MK2, and it was a decent table. Unfortunately I didn't get to use it much, as I only had one deck, and no mixer. I later sold it to a friend, who had bought a single deck of the same model at the same time as me. He now has the pair, and has had no problems that I know of. I wasn't aware that it was sold under many brandnames though!

I don't know if you can read at all, but if you can you should read a post before you reply!
I've posted the same link in my first post and if you have read my story you also should know that i didn't ask for a review. I asked if there were other people who had experience with this deck.

That is very strange...
These tables are "new". Maybe they just give it the same number, but i don't think that they are the same.
But i'm going to ask that on new-line.nl.

Maybe, but i think that they have tested it.
Off course the reliability is a very impotant issue and i'm curious if the OEM is reliable.

But are there any TA's who have played with this decks and what do you think about it?
Better then the SL?
Will this table be the new standard?

IMO it's a very good development in DJ land. Technics made a good table 25 years ago and haven't improved it a bit*, maybe they are going to develop a improved SL because they scared that other manufacturers will get the standard.
And it's also good for the price

* The only improvement that technics made was a pitch slider without the qaurtz lock. OK, it's nice, but it isn't a big improvement.

Someone is translating the (dutch) review into english.
It will be finished after this weekend.
