Countries split over ICANN's role
Many countries are growing increasingly displeased with ICANN's management of the web, and are pushing for UN oversight. According to this Financial Times Report http://news.ft.com/servlet/ContentS...=1012571727102, it's one of the major discussion points to be explored at the upcoming UN summit in December. Several countries believe the management of the web should lie in the hands of governments or an international authority like the International Telecommunications Union. The United States and the European Union strongly defend the existing ICANN management model.

Just what I need the U.N with developing world nations controlling internet, better than the large corporations now I guess, Right?

Since when in hell was this the purpose of the U.N. Next up Developing World dictators elected as head of U.N for life. Just see Robert Mugabe, Kim Jong-Il, Muammar Gaddafi and the host of other despots in this world lining up right now. First come, first served. Oh you can add Bush if it makes you happy.
