Headphone & cartridge recommendations?

Ok my needle has died on me and it's time to buy a quality one, rather than this Stanton one that only lasted me less than 1-2 months...

Are Ortofon Concorde cartidges any good? how reliable are they? and are their any other good ones out there at a reasonable price Also how long do Ortofons last for?

Now to headphones, ok my headphones are too funny to explain, they are shocking, it's worse than discman earphones (well not really, but you get the picture)... Now what's a decent headphone good for all occasions?? and one that will last me

Cheers,
Mehran

Check out the other forums (the dj 1), this question comes up like every day Ortfon Concorde cartridges are the best for trance IMHO [sound range, tracking, anti skating, weight etc] The shures are the best if you wanna scratch, but the skating and weight will wear your records out faster. Check out the dj forums tho, read it all in there

My pair (Ortfon Concord Nightclub E) cost $540 in the kit almsot a year ago.

I disagree. My opinion = Shure Whitelabels are cream of the crop, and many people think the ortofons are overrated... if you want something cheaper, the Shure M44G is apparrantly a really good buy! Not to be confused with the Shure M447 which is the scratching version.

btw if you are really serious about researching headphones, check out the headphones thread in the DJ Booth forum, and post some of your queries there!

Ortofon Concorde Nightclub E:-

I have Ortofon, cant remember what model, they were about $100 each just for the stylus.

I have no problems with them, they are pretty good, not the best for scratching, but great for trance. Really good sound and ive had them for well over 6months now! So they last a while

I use shure whitelabels, They are good cartridges, good sound quality, stylii have lasted me about 2-3 months so far and they dont need changing (usually with stantons id be buying packs of stylii every 3/4 months) yet. However they are expensive, and if you dont have the money then id stick with the stantons for another few months and save up. I got my whitelabels for 330 for the pair.

Headphones, I use pioneer hdj1000s. Really comfy phones, priced relatively nicely, i got mine for 240. However before that i was using 60 dollar sony's and again unless youve got the cash available or your in a huge rush because you need to play out somewhere, then i wouldnt bother. Of course the sound is a lot better on the Pioneers, and the noise cancellation is a lot better, but if they are just for home use then thats not overly important imo.

Spot on.

I too use both the white labels and the HDJ1000s.

The sound on the Shure's are very clean and indeed provide less tear on your vinyls.
And the good thing I like about the 1000's are that they are very flexible, and you could pretty much have them placed in any way you like, without straining them!

I got my pair for $340 as Rob said, but that was in August - you should be able to get them for about $300 now? And the Pioneers, use your bargining skills with Central Station, they should do them for about $200 - 220.

I use Ortofon Concorde DJ E, I think they are about $180 each, they are not quite as good as the Nightclubs but I can't justify spending another 50-60 per cart for a relatively small increase in performance. They sound good and they track well.

Headphones, I have Sennheiser HD25's, they sound incredible and kill an insane amount of external sound.

Cool, well i'm going to use the headphones for all rounders, club and home... so i should go with Pioneers Hdj1000s? Also has one got a pic of this headphone?

Now the shure whitelabels, Do CSR have these? how much are the stylii once they actually wear out?

Because even though my Stanton one is still under warrenty, they still said no in replacing the stylii. They said it would cost 80 bucks for the Stanton stylii...Now the first Stanton stylii i had only lasted a week , so i have to try and pick a whole cartridge and stylii that will last me more than that

Thanx everyone, much appreciated

Time to go shopping
