Carl Cox and Oakenfold--Area One @Jones Beach NY

I dont know what anyone else thought but the following was my experience. The day started amazing b/c it was so beautiful--bright sunshine and warm. It continued from there with Coxie, OMG, who was amazing. What a performer and a great guy. He put on a really good show and was really banging the crowd. I love the way he gets into his music and djing and the whole atmosphere. He was dancing, laughing, talking to the crowd, having a good time, really into it. He spun for about an hour to an hour and a half until 7:45. Really great set but wish it was longer.
Then came the other "big" act of the night--none other than Mr.Oakenfold. Of course from the beginning he had the huge banners of his label, Perfecto, everywhere--Mr.Moneybags. The visuals, more of the same. And when he got up there more of his arrogant poses, stances, attitude--typical Oakey. I said to myself, though, if he throws down a killer set, gives us what we want I could easily forget all of that. He started off throwing down Hide U-Kosheen, an amazing track and we were all singing..."Hide U...." Wow what a night this is gonna be I thought. I was excited, Oakey was gonna prove me wrong, that he really is one of the best. But I was sorely mistaken. Oakey was a major, major disappointment. Believe me I was not the only one thinking or acting like that. I listened, hoping each time to be moved by his set--NOTHING. His set was uninspiring, to say the least. I could not get into it at all and I really wanted to dance. I listened, hoping, waiting, but nothing. His set had no direction and was boring as hell. It was putting me to sleep esp compared to the ass kicking we received from Carl Cox. It was so bad that I left after an hour. I couldnt believe it but I just couldnt stay in there and listen to that garbage. I was and still am pretty shocked at how bad he was and very disappointed. Two things that will basically sum it up:
1)except for Oakey's entrance and the times when the crowd was urged on by the ridiculous cowboy who travels with Oakey, the loudest it got in the hour I was there was when a huge visual of NYC was put on the screen (and I think Oakey thought it was for him which was amusing)
2)when I was leaving after an hour of his set I talked to a few people in the back of the tent who couldnt see the dj and I asked what do you think, referring to the set, to which they replied "this warm-up dj is good but I wanna hear if Oakey will spin a good set".

Honestly the crowd was hoping, expecting so much more judging by the rxn to his start and his arrival. Many were disappointed. A lot of people were just standing around compared to Coxie. A lot of people left early too.
Anyway Coxie was brilliant and I cant wait to see him later.

That "ridiculous cowboy" that travels with oakenfold is d:fuse, who in my opnion, (and most others), is pretty damn good. i have met him, had him sign cd's, etc. he is a very nice guy (from austin, TX), and has some great stuff out. you should check into it.

why is he always with oakenfold? paul signed d:fuse to his label, and d:fuse tours with oakenfold to promote perfecto.
we know you have beef with oakenfold, ive seen ur posts already. just dont insult DJ's you have no idea who they are.
