All right then, Vivid, there you go And, Orbax, if you don't mind, I'm gonna use your example
When you get happiness from drinking beer for example, this satisfaction is just temporary because of a simple reason: Beer is finite and you can't be drunk forever. I realise this sounds obvious, but people are bound to forget it because of the pleasure they get from it. Once you drink the content inside the bottle, there's no more beer (unless you obviously buy more, but let's think of the worst case scenario here, in which you've got no money either). What happens? Hangover, and the problem now is that there's no more beer for you to be drunk again and forget/ignore the pain. This way, pleasure led to pain.
If you realise that beer will lead you to pain, you won't drink it. You'll realise that we don't have control on the things we can touch: we can control the way we feel things though (this is why happiness comes inside in). Parents, girls, cars,... they don't belong to you, and you can lose them (hence you can't get real pleasure FROM them, since they're not part of you and may be gone one day).
(I've got to go now but I'll be back with the second part of it in a couple of hours if there's any doubt or misunderstanding due to my English and hurry ).

Are you Buddhist by chance? |
It depends... here's why:
| quote: | Originally nicked from buddhanet.net
In one way being a Buddhist means belonging to a particular community of people and following a path of life taught by the Buddhas (enlightened beings). Members of the Buddhist community are formally joined by taking refuge in the Buddha, the Dharma (the teaching) and the Sangha (the community of noble disciples). |
I temporarily studying the Dharma on my own, which means that I'm not a part of any Sangha right now (long story). Thus, I don't think I can be religiously labelled as Buddhist - maybe just philosophically, if you will
