You have some good ideas with the melody and production - but the composition is out of tune (the saw melody and gated pad) work on that and your mastering (your percussion needs some beefing up) and you'll have some good stuff.
I agree with Allan. I think you have the right idea. The rest will come with experience mate. The melody is quite good. Infact, I might be interested in having a go at this if you're interested. It would be nice to remix some Australian work.
Things that need improvement
1. the levels
2. compression
Listen to your song and then A/B it with a pro record. You will notice that yours is a lot softer in volume. through some compression, you can make everything a little fuller and louder.

The melody is good at some points but bad at others.. it's some what like 2 melodies in one - from 1:33 - 1:37 it has a somewhat dark melody (minor) Then from 1:37 - 1:40 it goes into something rather off-key (worse part of your melody) then from 1:40 - 1:47 is has a some what uplifting melody (major). Major and Minor can go together quite well if used right - If you either 1 fixed the melody between 1:37 - 1:40 or change the melody from 1:33 - 1:37 it might do the trick.. The arp melody at 0:25 good but it is out of tune from the main saw melody.. post the midi file so I can play around with it instead of bitching!
