Love Poundin' Sensation heart or mind?

I'm so stuck, like in terms of knowing what I want to do for a career, or general path in life. I have a knack for making films and stuff, like Cyrus King, but I don't know if I can make a decent living off film, or if I'll even become marginally recognized after many years in the industry, as there are so many talented people working in that field.

I could always take the safe and typical route and get a science degree from UWO or something, but then, where's the fun in that? I would always sort of regret not doing film or whatever. But that also works both ways - regretting not doing science after my financial life sucks doing film, and everyone ridiculing or just plain not paying attention to my work.

It's one of those typical "do you follow your heart, or follow your mind" kinda things. It's really starting to get to me, especially when I'm nearing that fork in the road : finishing high school and moving on.

What's your take on this? Not necessarily my situation in particular, but in general. Drawing parallels to other things and such, what is your view on the whole thing?

As much as I hear my father bitch about his job day in and day out, I've learned to go with my heart. I started out pre-med because I thought I could make some nice cash and be respected at the same time. After a year I woke up from that pipe dream and have now changed my major to that which will make me happy which is Philosophy/Religion. I won't make anywhere close to 6 figures as a professor, and I'll have to go to school forever, but in the long run I know I will love doing it.

You can still do what you enjoy and live a comfortable life. If you do what brings in the cash, you're just going to want more and it will never end. Your life will be fueled by desire. After you graduate, approximately 1/3 of your time will be at work (In general, obviously this varies) so make sure you're not miserable for that 1/3 of your life.

Judging by the "Money creates happiness thread" a while back, most people will say do what makes you the most money.

Yea I hear ya, I thought of doing both (as an example), but I also don't want to be wasting my time.

Well you could sorta argue both ways. I mean, making lots of cash would help me raise a family a lot easier, and fund my kids' endeavours and all that. Saves a lot of headache and trouble.

i said heart too- your gut usually is what your heart wants. your mind is whats sensible and the "right" thing to do whereas your heart/gut tells you what you truly want to do. hehe smartass

I know what you're saying, but it can be a waste of time when you can barely feed your kid and/or yourself (cuz u just never know lol).

IMO, i would go with whatever gets you the most money. Then on the side, you can do what you love to do as a hobby.

BTW, im in bio science. Is there any money is this? I have no fucking clue what i want to do. This shit is damn hard.

It's true that money problems can cause strain on relationships, but if you're both happy at what you're doing, don't you think you'd find a way to manage? As long as you can take care of your health, I don't think you need to worry about anything else. "Easier" is all relative. Is it a roof over your head, a new car every few years, a pool in the backyard? I'm sure there are a plethora of families outside of this continent that are a lot happier than the average North American family.
