======= TAKEN FROM DECEMBER 2003 ISSUE OF ZERO MAGAZINE HITTING NEWSTANDS DEC 11 =========

Featured Record

Artist: Digital Witchcraft
Title: ‘Snowday EP’
Label: Institution Breaks
Rating: 10/10

Institution Breaks sets its foot into the unstable electronic music industry with a release by the highly hyped duo Digital Witchcraft. The record consists of two lush melodic breakbeat tracks called ‘Kaylee’s Blanket’ and ‘Snow Day.’ The titles of these beautiful composed tracks are befitting to the moods they create. Both productions provide crisp drum pads that have fairy dust melodies that gently lay on top of each like a blanket of snow. These tracks are perfect for the cold winter nights when you are snuggling on the couch with the Mrs. and sharing a cup of romantic cup of Earl Grey. Although both tracks are similar in their use of melodies and breaks sequences, ‘Kaylee’s Blanket’ is a track that touched me on a much higher emotional level. Digital Witchcraft’s piano playing ability sets them apart from most producers who get away with looping 3 keys throughout a song. They live up to the hype that has surrounded them for the past few months and I can’t wait to hear what they have in store for the spring thaw.

check this 2:

Digital Witchcraft - Brindavan

Style: Progressive Breaks

This is a great record.

Brindavan begins with off beat breaks and eastern percussion. A female chant is introduced as an intricate melody dances over the bassline until filtered keys collide with floating pads, shuffled percussion and bassline key changes for pure bliss. Then the breaks drop...
All these elements combine in interesting arrangements to produce a truly mesmerizing track.

Pocket universe is a surreal journey of broken beats and spacey sweeps. Hyponotic male and female vocals fight for attention over percussive hits and the stabby synthline. Crunchy breakbeats and hi hat shuffles create a perfect opportunity for the chopped vocal to be teased out on top of bassline key changes. A futuristic melody takes this great track out.

Passionate, intelligent and original. Bring it on!

Rating: 9 / 10.
