Read This! Fruityloops Discussion (advanced)

Hi all!

OK, so i've been using fruityloops for quite some time now an i've completed a few tracks here and there.

-but it kind of shits me how theres still some aspects that I havent been able to figure out.

so I'd like to discuss some of the following things and any ideas you may have about them.

The Phaser
==========

Yes its the phaser. Its been around since the 80's and its still going strong.

Now, the depth and the feed collectively are the intensity of the Phaser, but I have yet to figure out how to change the speed. the whole time I have been using fruity loops I have tried over and over to work out the damn speed

Loading Wavs
============

When you load custom wavs into new samplers it always comes up with lots of different errors but then still works... wtf's up with that?

Blood Overdrive
===============

Ahh, we all like a bit of distortion...
There is one slight problem with this little ripper however.
Its when you want to make a pattern start off undistorted and have it distorted as hell by the time it gets to the end. So! to start off with, you swith on x100, jam up the "Post-Gain" whilst the Pre-Amp is right down, so that you can actually hear the undistorted effect. Now you edit the event for preamp to make an up slope for the pattern to gradually get more distortion, but "oh shit!!! It seems to be getting really loud. what do you do... well... I realise that all you would have to do is make an event for the Post Gain to decrease at the same time but not only would it be very hard to level the volume constantly but there also has to another solution.

Known Bugs
==========

Please list any bugs that you have come across in all your fruity experience

The only 2 that I have noticed are with the scratcher and the Scratcher and the Arpeggiator.
The Scratcher sometimes does this thing where after a few seconds of scratching it goes silent and the Arpeggiator sometimes sticks and you have 2 play another pattern for it to stop.

Well thats about it from me so have a nice day and please feed me some back

phaser
adjust using sweep frequency, larger it is, the faster it sweeps

loading wavs
i have never had any problems with loading wavs.. but as long as it works and sounds fine.. no problems there

blood overdrive
if you want to make your sounds louder, use the compressor... unless you want distortion
but if you want distortion, 1) achieve the distortion you want (doesn't matter what volume it is), and 2) lower or raise the channel fx volume to compensate for the volume

scratcher
i don't use it.. it is pointless and was just included so newbies would think "oh, look i'm so cool, i'm a DJ, i can scratch" ... try learning the wavetable instead.. it is much more useful and if you want to simulate scratching.. it does a hell of a better job at it.. although it is hrader to use

arpeggiator
again, i don't use it... i find it better to program all the notes myself in the piano roll... it does take more time.. but you have unlimitted flexibility in what notes are going to be played and how loud, how long, etc... if you find programming notes in the pianor roll tedious, select a repeating pattern, and then copy and paste... the selection tool is the key... makes things much faster

someone move this thread to the producers forum.. i want my +1

yeah my days of using the arpeggiator are long gone, but I do remember it sticking.

P.S

copy and paste i'm afraid, unless a mod does it for you. Either way, you're not going to get many serious answers here, so go ahead and move it.

Instead of switching between the pen and selecter in Piano roll.

Use the pen all time, and just hold down ctrl when you want to select something.

Forgot to select something? Just hold down shift+ctrl.

Selected to much? Restart..

I'll add more if I come up with anything..

ABout waves, i never had this problem... should be something with your waves codecs or such.

Bout the overdrive, u can use a fruity X-Y Controller linked to both Pre-Amp and Post Gain, so u can automate both at the same time, making the volume lower as the distortion raises. But i really dont like it very much. I would recomend using fruity fast-distortion, or some other free plugin like MDA Overdrive or such.

what about that sample file in fruityloops where the knobs are moving by themselves, even when the song is stopped

how did that guy get them to do that?

just hit the record button while playing your song and move the knobs however you please. It'll save those knob movements to the track I recommend backing up your song before messing around with this too much though

I could be wrong but, I think he has the knobs assigned to the peak controller. So its not really recorded events, but an actual plug-in that is controlling the knobs.

Just add a peak controller to a free effects channel, then just right click any knob you want to automate, and then click 'link to controller', and select the Peak + LFO. You can do this with more than one knob at a time, or more than one peak controller (For different speeds and such on seperate knobs, yadda yadda).
