Does anyone have any suggestions on "mastering" a 60-70 minute DJ mix?

I threw down a fairly decent deep house set a few days ago, and would like to make sure all volumes are the same.

I have Sound Forge 5, I've tried using the Wave Hammer pre-set "Master for 16bit", then normalizing to peak. Some of the songs have slightly overpowering bass, so I used a paragraphic EQ to cut frequencies below 40Hz. Unfortunately, I'm not getting the results that I'd like.

Does anyone have a formula for putting a deep mix on CD? I recorded from a DJM600 to an M-Audio Audiophile soundcard. I made sure that my VU meters didn't run hot, they peaked at 0dB throughout the mix. When I open up the mix in Sound Forge, the mix stays within the -6dB range. I just need a few pointers on how to make it sound warm and even throughout on a CD. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

great freaking program. It is a direct x plugin that you run your mix through and it masters it. there are a lot of settings but even the presets can get you great results.

and wow, now that I check I see that izotope ozone 3 is out. although it is $199 after the download, it is solid.


maybe you can find an extended trial version around, but we don't like to mention those methods.

it's got a parametric eq, compressor/limiter.. it's like a little audio rack.

you can set up the compressor/limiter and EQs to work well with just about any sort of input.. then process the whole wav file according to those settings.

a little tweaking and you'll have a leveled mix, with proper eq corrections to make it sound the way it should.

t-racks has nothing to do with soundforge. Standalone app.

feed it a wav, and it makes a "master", also in wav format. then run that through lame, and poof, insto-mp3-mix

Hey when mastering mixes like that wouldn't you Not want to take out everything less than 40 hz? Thats taking out all the low bass in the music... wouldn't you rather put a compression on those tones below 40 hz, say something with a DB or DBSpl tag, meaning the volume or overall intensity of the sound.

Otherwise you are just taking the low end of the frequency spectrum and completely cutting it out. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not so sure how compression boxes but I know about sound levels and intensity.
