LOL
What a weird senseless question. When has there ever been "world peace" anyway? What exactely do you consider world peace? What are "events" ?
Just tell us what you wanna say and post: Te US fucked up in Iraq and the world is a less secure place today.
And I will say: Bullshit.

The world is perhaps getting a bit less secure since the virus of world wide terrorism keeps spreading. Ready to hit Europe, too.

I have doubts as to the possibility of the human race in it's current state of social evolution ever getting closer to peace.

We are a confrontational society (speaking in global terms) that is predominantly fueled by 3 religions that are closely tied together yet each promote themselves as the only "truth".

So my answer, sadly, is no.

I have a good way to garner that elusive World Peace, start by getting rid of those afformentioned religions for starters, that will of course never happen so there goes "World Peace". MrSquirrel is right too many intolerant people in humanity for that to happen. Can you see Al Qaeda embracing another person from a different religion, can you see hardcore Jewish settlers saying that the Palestinians should regain all land in the Occupied Territories, can you see the Catholic (Pope) or the Anglican church saying that gays and lesbians should be treated with the same laws and rights as other human beings, without exception. Intriguing questions indeed. The reality of humanity is that we are a collection of divergent cultures and beliefs that often tend to intersect. I tend to respect the cultures of others by my own intuitive interests in such things, not all people are this way however.

Can you see atheist zealots embracing and tolerating religious zealots...

No religion is a religion, just like all the others, so you can never escape "religion" as we know it.

And yes, I do think the events of 2003 have brought the world closer to "World Peace", although admittedly slightly, and there is a lot of work to be done, but it is a precursor of what needs to be done.

Happy New Year guys!

Hey Yoepus Happy New Years to you too man, I can guarantee that atheist zealots would be Hung, Drawn and Quartered depending on their location in the world before they are embraced by religous zealots. Religous zealots are always right after all, hence the term zealots. No rhyme, reason or argument over their beliefs much less contra can be proposed by heritics and heathens All this of course demonstrates one of the reasons why World Peace will never be attained, I repeat never. Sad but true. If someone believes it can then I would love to see the formula that will produce it.

Zealot = bad mmkay?

For once, on the "athiest zealot" comment, I agree with Yoepus. They want confrontation as much as the religious zealots.

/me shivvers to get the "I agree with Yoepus" dust off

P.S. by the way what exactly constitutes an athiest zealot, we can all of course decipher what it implies, but would it be an unholy anarchist breaking windows of McDonalds at WTO meetings, an ungodly Greenpeace protester (if you ever meet my College Professor you would understand why this is listed), a nudist with no morals. Hmm, okay that's enough feel like I'm hijacking the thread. Just wondering what is an atheist zealot, any definitions or examples guys.

By the way that professor once dropped me a full letter grade on a report because I mentioned in a report off of the Greenpeace website that Norway was engaging at the time in illegal whaling activities. Being an active Greenpeace member he felt that he knew what was happening and the info was wrong.

Historically speaking, its way too early to make any such judgement on whether 2003 brought the world any substantial "peace"....hence it is unlikely there ever will be any true peace so long as 'we' exsist.

i posted this poll just to see how TAs are different from Al Jazeera readers (they had the exact same poll) and to my surprise, the results are almost the same, we have 14% saying yes compared to 22% over there saying yes.

I know the question is vague, but it does certainly fuel discussion and thats why its posted in a discussion forum
