in the vast diversity of our race, we must admit that we are founded on one single design. superficial differences (skin color, weight, height etc) can be ignored so we can concentrate on the only thing that truly makes us different from everyone else: our brain. now, as far as i know, no one really knows what seperates us from the animals. "It's the frontal lobe," one may say. True. That particular part of our brain allows us to communicate in an advanced manner, and provides us cohesive and intellectual inner thought and reason.
In a perpetual system, the brain runs the body, and the body runs to keep the brain fuctional. to what greater purpose? you wouldn't start up your car and let it idle in neutral all day. But I digress, too easily.
I really don't know that much about the chemistry of the brain. I know that our nerves rely on energy to perform any normal activity. So your brain creates and sends low levels of electricity to the required area. Would it be a far stretch to believe that your thoughts are emitted in a similar manner, like radio waves?
So if thoughts are waves of energy, how can you be sure that this energy stops at your skull? Picture your inner dialogue as a walkie-talkie (cheesy, but a good example for this argument). if you set the walkie talkie to 'scan' the antenna will flip through the channels one by one until it picks up a message, perhaps you even say something on channel six, and the stranger across from you on the bus randomly thinks about the movie 'pretty in pink', but didn't you just watch that this morning?

I hope some of you follow I have smoked a few bowls this morning, so I thought I would let one fly.

They actually did this already. They stuck transmitters in monkeys brains and tuned them to a specific frequency. They then put the receptors in robotic arms. They also gave the monkeys joysticks to control the arms. After a while the monkeys realized that it was their thought controlling the arms not thejoysticks and threw the joysticks away as if to show the scientists "Ha! we know what is going on!"

pretty amazing. I cant wait to see what this means in the next few decades.

as for thoughts being transmitted outside the skull - their energy is pretty weak, so they don't get carried too far.

however, you can practice to make them stronger (don't ask me, i don't know) and also there's this theory that you can relay them through special ether, which surrounds Earth.


of course, this is all just theory. remember that thread about an article where the guy taught you how to mentally harass people? something like that. i'm gonna try to find the link.

well it is our advanced cerebral cortex that seperates us from other animals.

and just because our brain may emit a wave of sorts doesn't mean that any brain can recieve it. as far as I know the brain has nerves connected to nodes throughout the brain and those need direct electrical stimulation to fire. If any wave is given off it is probably just a by-product of the activity and serves no purpose.


Plus we just don't know enough about the brain to have any definitive answer.

crap, i couldn't find that thread with the article about the guy who talked about how you just have to think about someone you like, but really concentrate, and if you imagine like touching them, they'll feel it... it was posted some time in early April... damn, it was funny!

Anyway, the energy of the brain waves doesn't stop at your skull, it is spread out throughout the universe, but it's pretty weak, our brain is not a good receiver/transmitter. With some sort of neural amplifiers, however, the energy could be sent over to larger distances. Whether it could be put to a useful purpose (telepathy, telekinesis) is uncertain but possible. I am hopeful that some research will soon take place on this matter, so that I can get myself a psi-amp like the ones from x-com.

your question "to what greater purpose? you wouldn't start up your car and let it idle in neutral all day." is a good one and the major theory that prety much all scientists think (but impossable to prove) is that the universe and everything in it strives to become more and more complex.
and what separates us from animals is the fact we have more neurons in our brains. posably the "wiring" will also be done better through evolution.

erm hate to disagree with you chief, but Entropy.

It is actually a part of entropy.
So much different elements and there interactions will randomly create an infinitely complex universe.

or, like a snowflake, itll melt and go into uniform.

I guess it depends on how optimistic you are hehe.

basicly to keep the universe chaotic in nature it would have to become infinitly coplex other wise the complexity would level out and hence become non-chaotic.
its an anoyin concept to get your head round.

kind of like the concept of pop idol "stars" actualy selling records!
i think that proves the chaotic nature of the universe tho.
i might send that proof to some scientists and see how revolutionary it is!
