Logic Vocoding

How the hell you get this working.

I have an audio file that I wanna use my midi keyboard to play into, like Tupac-California love and daft punk kinda thing.

Ive tried using the side chain of a virtual instrument/bus like it says in the help file but that only works if I save a synth inserted, but then you hear the synth, thats not what im after. someone tell me how i can do this

I don't know logic, but some vocoders require that you have a midi note being sent to it as well as an audio signal.

If you want to use the vocoders internal synth, then you would have to send the output of the vocal audio channel into the vocoder and the output of the midi channel to the vocoder as well. Then you would use the vocoders internal synth as the carrier signal.

If you want to use an external carrier signal (ie, your own synth sounds), then in the Cubase Vocoder at least, you need to pan the vocals to one side (left) and the synth (carrier) to the other side. Then select the right option in the vocoder to use an external carrier. Not sure if it works the same in logic but it might.

Hummm, so If I have the vocal track in 'Track 1' the only way I can send the midi signal through a 'Instrument/midi' channel is through sending that channel to a bus with the vocoder on it, but that way there is no actual audio present, just midi. and ughhh

hey

not really a vocoder but try that filter bank evoc 20 filterbank in the inserts.. you can get some wicked stuff out of it

like hey cheggy said : a vocoder will need an audio signal you can record. Basicly you have an audio signal you get thru your synth engine using the synthesis and the efx of your synth... You'd better record the output of that synth..

Try rendering the midi instrument to audio, rather than running it in real time. Then yeah, you need to send both the carrier and the modulater through a bus/sub/group channel (whatever you want to call it). And as i said, in cubase, you need to pan them in opposite directions, don't know why, you just do.

Doesn't Logic come with manuals for all the plugins? It would be a good place to look.
