who has str8-100s?

I've been interested in these decks lately because of their good reviews and praise . . . does anybody have firsthand experience with them?

I haven't got the STR8's but I've got the regular ST version (with an S shaped instead of a straigh tonearm).
Well, For 7 months, I was happy with it. A good quality turntable, steady pitch, cool blue lights, pretty high torque and so on...
But, last week, the preamplifier of the turntable died... So, there was NO sound at all coming out of the turntable, not out of the phono nor out of the LINE. I always say, the more electronics there are, the more chance you have of it getting broken... but, I immediately called stanton, and the next day, DHL (courrier service) stood at my door to pick the turntable up. Stanton called me yesterday and promissed me I would have the turntable by next friday. Well, a good warranty service I guess, but still, I miss my turntable for 2 weeks. If you can choose between the ST90 or the ST100, go for the ST90 (less electronics, AND cheaper ).

That's what I'm using, currently.

They're pretty solid, actually, and the price is right. They aren't a bad place to start mixing.

Scratching is a bit odd with them, because it doesn't take much pressure to completely stop the table, but a lighter touch is something I probably need to work on anyways...

I honestly can say don't get them, save your money and buy either the Vestax pdx2000's, or Technics 1200's. If you don't you'll only wish you did later. The specs for the str8-100's look good on paper but thats about all they have going for them! They claim to have more torque than the Vestax, & Techs. But if you've ever used Vestax or Technics, then you know that the Stantons torque is a joke compared to the 2 latter! Trust me save your money and get Vestax, or Technics you'll be way happier if you do!

just wondering.... how come the stantons are supposed to have more torque than technics but you can stop the platter without much pressure? i've wondered this for a while.

how much money would you save buying stantons over a set of MK2s or M3Ds? is that the main reason why people gravitate to stantons or is it all of the features they have on paper? my advice, bite the bullet and get some techs, but if you go for stantons i hope it works out

Well, not all people have tons of money, that's true. I mean, If I would have bought 2 sl1200's instead of the ST100s, That would've costed me 100€/turntable more. Here the sl1200s cost over 500€. For the ST100s I've paid 389€ a piece. And, I've compared them a little bit with the sl1200s in my recordstore, and about the torque... well, the stantons DO have more torque but the technics on the other hand, have a more steady tonearm.
If you'd let me choose now, I'd still go for the ST100's...
