indeed we are gifted and special in our special way
from where i see it, since no two ppl are alike in any way possible, and since we all have different tastes and opinions, its just natures thing you know. its the same concept with music as it is with fav colors and fav food for example. i mean if you like green, and i like yellow, than thats just the way things are, no one or nothing cant really change it. unfortunately, in todays society, most ppl go by whats in and whats not really in. since pop/hip-hop/rock are very popular, b/c some moron said it was the coolest music around, everyone is 'liking' it, its mostly about fitting in nowadays. trance doesnt exactly get the popular vote, so, consequently, its not getting much attention, except from the ppl who know what they like and know what they want to hear.
want proof? ive got a friend, a really good friend, shes awesome! but she cares a lot about what others think/say/do. all throughout high school she hang out with popular kids at school and with us after school. she dresses very preppy-like and shes into hiphop/r&b stuff, all b/c she wanned to fit in back in high school, and now, shes left with those dumb habbits of trying to be like everybody else, and i blame our society for that!
sorry for gettin carried away like that, didnt mean to make this a long post

You could think you are gifted to be able to feel trance...i'm gonna try to explain what I think, I have no clue if it'll make sense, cause its kinda hard to explain....but here it goes....
but you cannot be gifted with feeling something I believe...
you feel trance because its just who u r deep down, some people hear it as sounds, we hear it as something beautiful, it gives us feelings that cannot be described. We are definitely a minority compared to all other music listeners out there. Society just has way too many problems, but thats not what im gonna discuss. To feel trance, you must be open-minded and imaginative I think.
Someone told me this argument once, she asked me what kind of music I like, and at that time my reply was Electronica, so after seeing a look of digust on her face, she actually gave me a pretty interesting theory to think about that she read somewhere.......That everybody has an inner beat u can say, people have different beats and such that is why different music appeals to them so that is why you respond to a certain kind of music, it really goes with what you feel inside, and that is when u enter trance!
anyways, i hope some of that made sense, if it didn't im sorry!!

You're forgetting that just because we may enjoy trance and garner some hidden meaning from it, it doesn't mean that there's anything inherently brilliant about trance, it's just that we have a personal preference towards it. Some people probably get the same feelings from listening to classical music or rock 'n' roll or whatever - which just goes to underline the fact that all tastes are subjective. Each to their own.
But tastes develop and mature according to what we experience in life. For instance, we only find trance so meaningful now because the sum total of everything that we've experienced has led us to feel this way: if you'd been played trance when you were ten, and hadn't had the right experiences to form an appreciation for trance, you go "what the hell is this shit?". People, because they've each had infinitely different experiences from everyone else, are going to differ widely in tastes. Next time you wonder how it is that some people don't like trance, just ask yourself why you don't like house music, or rock 'n' roll, or rap (or any other form of music you don't share others passion for), and you may be able to understand.
Are we gifted then? No, not really. We just happen to have had the right experiences to have made trance appeal to us. Liking trance is no more a gift than liking icecream or liking any given sporting team: just because it has meaning to us and we are emotionally attached to it, it doesn't mean that there is any objective reason why other people should necessarily feel the same way. Similarly, it doesn't mean that there is any inherent brilliance in trance itself, we just choose to see it that way.
Hope I've answered your question hypronix?

i agree with hypronix and also renegade a little too. i know that sometimes when i've been at a club and i was rolling, a song would come on and for some reason, i would just like "know" how the dj was feeling or what mood he/she was in at the moment he/she was making that song...u know what i mean? like they don't need words to express themselves when making a song. and they "know" the people will feel it when they hear it. maybe it was the drugs, but then again, i've felt this way sober too. also, my bf and i have talked about marriage before (no we're not getting hitched any time soon) but we are very serious (we live together) and we have joked about what song we will have at our wedding, and no doubt it will be a trance song with no words. ppl might find that weird, but we know what the songs means for us. we have our own words to the song, but only in our mind. trance leaves so many doors open for us to explore. that's what trance is all about...feelings. i think people who like trance ARE gifted because we are able to pick up on those feelings without having words to help us. take a rapper like Jay-Z for instance. he just goes on and on about hoes and how he likes to fuck and be a player and whatnot....OF COURSE his fans are gonna "feel" him cuz he is just SAYING whatever is on his mind....when ur a trance/breaks/jungle dj, u don't need words, and the people still feel the music and know what u meant by producing that song make sense?? i hope
