Just returned from the BT set....

Some quick notes to start off....peoples story of the event will hinge upon a few major things...the Pre-BT tunes, the power outage....the wait....the wait...the wait...and the last 2 and a half hours +.

Arrived at the club at 930pm and stood in a "reasonable" line that went to the corner. Into the club with in 20 minutes....it wasn't really busy yet, and it seemed that they just kept the line moving "slow" to keep the line looking bigger... not really to sure on that one, althought they were "security" checkin people...*laugh*.

Inside we found that there was in fact no opener...and only some cd or slection tunes that ranged from early 90's Eurodance to Breakbeat Jungle and and everything in between. Once the crowd grew...which it filled up nicely, the vibe got pretty good...until the song ended and a completely different genre started...oh well...

Anyway, a little later than mentioned, BT showed up around 11pm, the Suckies did their little "Thankyou radioland for letting us have a job" and BT started off....Great energy....big beats...huge volume (a little much)...he played about a song and a half....I'd say spun, but as most of you BT'ers know, he uses his G4 and some effects pads/boxes to put together a "symphony" which is quite amazing....after 1.5 songs the whole rack basically went tits up and the music stopped. After a loud roar from the crowd..a few chants...it became quite apparent there was a major problem, and the 'techies' didn't even know where to start.

So, if you stayed that long....and waited anywhere from 10 minutes to 40....then left you'd be pretty disappointed. Rightfully so...the place cleared out by at least 50%....It was the worst breakdown of equipment that I have seen in many years of "participation".

45 minutes later, the power was restored and off to the beats BT went again....this time until the place shut down....put the power outage into the back of your mind and he put together a great performance. Lots of classic and new tunes...lots of prog and even some hard housy feeling stuff and a couple good trance tracks...take those and mashed up with "the Police", "Beasie Boys" and even a short rendition of "Outkast" made for a good show, and he put lots of energy and antics into it all. If you made it to the end of the show it was quite worthwhile...An encore complete with BT standing on the Booth and tossing the mixer off the table. Unfortunately, it was quite connected to many parts of the system and just hung over the edge, but not without some pieces flying off. I'm not sure the "motivation" of this event, the power outage, or some random stunt...all the champagne he drank...but it was damn funny...and since so much was connected to the mixer...trying to take it was futile...myself and two other guys flopped it back of the booth on top of one othe SL-1200's parked there. I shoulda nabbed the headphones...for no plausible reason...but alas I didn't.

All in all...good times...and for $5 bucks you couldn't beat it...though yes the power outage was very disappointing...yet clearing out some of the crowd is kinda nice. And going in expected 1.5 hours of music, and getting 11pm - 3am (minus 45 for power)...well 3 hours plus made it well worth it.

Hey, good review of the night. It was a bummer to have to wait so long for them to get things fixed. I thought BT started out with great energy and the crowd really got into it from the start. I wish it could have just continued from there, but I agree it was nice to have more room on the dance floor.

He played more prog/drums than I would have wanted (really a trancer at heart), but I got easily my $5 satisfaction out of Godspeed. It was nice how he came back to it after getting into that Sting/Police tune.

That's quite the finale I missed then (though I did have to wake up this morning as well). What tunes did he mix there at the end? We left around 2:15.

The club was pretty decent. I think I'd go there again if they could ensure power throughout the whole evening.
