Is this a 90's thing?

Now...listen to the crowd in these short clips of a set from 1995. I have a few questions about that noise they're making. I can also hear people doing this in a Carl Cox set from '96.

Clips - Here & Here

1. Does it have a name?
2. Do people still do it?
3. Why does it make me laugh every time I hear it?

I can’t be bothered to download the clips, but if it what I suspect a sort of “ooooowa ooooowa” chant, then they were doing that way before the 90s, thankfully it seems to have died...for now.

Ahaha I remember that chant, it was so cheesy then and even more so now that it doesn't have mass appeal.

They only did it but once or twice the whole set.

And I was just wondering, since I never started really even listening to music until 2000.

tbh i think the hip hop variation was just a tad different.. yeah a lot of people did do the woop woop thang a few years back.. and itd just start with one dumbass guy proly smashed out his face [good lad] on a breakdown or some other noticably significant part of a set.. then the crowd would follow suit.. i guess its sorta a more musical friendly version of screaming your head off in awe or appreciation for what it is your hearing.. i mean wailing over the top of a breakdown although does sound untiting and completely atmospheric.. but it kinda cancels out the sound you should be hearing/enjoying.. the woop woop [as im sure you noticed] is to the beat so dosnt really ruin anything.. atmosphere is still without a doubt most definatly there, but overall i guess this is just a more in sync way of tell the DJ 'what im hearing right now is fucking safe, and i just wanted to let you know that without ruining this sound that your presenting me with.. even tho the fat guy at the front with his shirt off hugging random people did it first'.
