I just got a set of Pio cdj-100s, and efx 500, and an djm 300s mixer and they all kick ass. The only problem is i have no f'in idea how to record my mixes. I got them hooked up to my panasonic stereo right now cause i dont have the cash to buy speakers and amps yet. I also got a semi old mac running os 9.(i have no idea which version im on now). What do i need to buy/hook up/do to be able to start recording my mixes.

You will need an audio program. I usually suggest Audacity as it is free but I am not sure if they have a OS 9 version. Once you have some software it is easy, just plug your record out from your mixer into the line in on your soundcard (a 1/4" jack). If you don't have a line in on your computer for whatever reason, you will have to go buy a soundcard that has it. I can't recommend a sound card because I don't know what kind of computer you have.

I think the hardest part will be finding a recording program for OS 9. Because it is old, maybe you will be able to buy it for cheap.

This is the link to Audacity's download page. The latest versions (1.2) do not support OS 9 but the old verion (1.0) does. Actually now that I look at it, it seems that you can get version 1.1.1 for OS 9 but it may be unstable.

What kind of Mac do you have?

Im pretty sur ei got a G3 desktop. But ive had it forever anywyas and i should upgrade soon so i was lookin at the mac website and im thinkign about goiung for the G4 Powerbook 17" but i wont be able to get that for at least a year. But if i did get that, i would be able to do allmost annything recording wise when i get the right application rigth

i use sound forge, works great for me.

A G3 desktop shold really have a line in on the back so you should be OK. If you don't you can buy some Mac compatable PCI sound card and that should work.

If I were you I would buy OS X as I am pretty sure it would run on your computer. It is SO much better than OS 9 it is not even funny.

Depending on how old the G3 PowerMac you have is you may not be able to run the latest version (10.3 which requires a USB port equipped mac) however even if you can't use that version, 10.2 can be had for only 40 bucks (the OEM version which means you don't get a manual).

Thank but for now i found an old sony cassete tape recorer and im using that . Ghetto i know. But untill i get the 3g needed to buy the G4 17" Power Book i want im gona stick with that and just listen to all my mixes in my car's casette player.

On my old G3 I used this....

worked pretty good.

Also, go to apple.com and update to OS 9.2.2 for free
look under support.

And I'm pretty sure OSX won't run very well on the old G3's.

It doesn't, its ridiculously slow. If you just want to record your mix onto the computer, then there's absolutely nothing wrong with OS9, it does everything you need. I'm not too familiar with OS9, but I'm sure there's some kind of sound recording prog on there...

As long as you've got a soundcard in it with a line in, you're good to go. Look for a blue hole (I think line in is blue? maybe its green) on the back, or a hole with a symbol next to it that's like a circle with an arrow pointing into the circle. That's your line in. Don't be tempted to use the mic input, it won't give good results.

Then, you need a cable. This is a stereo RCA to stereo minijack (1/8" jack). You should be able to find this at Radioshack or any electronics/audio/hi-fi store.

OS 9 does not come with any recording software.

The jack with the mic symbol is the line in.

No it isn't - that's the mic in. Line in and mic in are very different. For a start, the mic in is mono. Also, microphones have a very low signal that has a different frequncy pattern to a line level signal, and thus the mic input has different amplification properties. *DON'T* use the mic input to record from a line level source like a DJ mixer.
