problem with 1200's

my 1200's are working fine, but my buddy is having a problem with his.

the problem:

when cueing tracks the stylus skips like crazy- the whole cartridge
shakes whenever you move the record with your hand. is this a problem with the cartridge or the tone arm?

thanks!

I kinda have the same problem, but only with certain records. I believe its the record press that causes that. I could be wrong...

If it’s a mounted cartridge: take it off the tone arm, strip it down and put it back together again. Then recalibrate the tone arm setup.

If it’s an all in one cart: Just recalibrate the tone arm setup.

It might sort out the problem, and it can’t harm it to try.

yea that wouldnt be a problem with the TT but rather the cartridge. What model of stantons are they? I'm guessing it's an integrated headshell design as you said the cartridge and stylus were stanton. If so have you made sure they were balanced properly and are using the correct amount of tracking force? I would suggest rebalancing the cartridge and check all settings, like height and anti-skate. If you are still having problems then switch stylus tips if you have an extra. And if that don't help then I would bring your cartridges over to your friends house to see if he would need some new cartridges.

i would try just screwing your tone arm weights down a little more. a friend of mine puts his weights on backwards and screws them all the way down so that they allmost never loose the groove, allthough I'm guessing this will eat up records alot faster. good luck!

actually your all wrong

The problem is that the locking mechanism that the cartridge attaches to the turntable through is a bit loose. This causes the cartridge to have a slight wobble.

To fix this, get a very small screwdriver and tighten up the two screw's located on the underside of the tone-arm(near the tip).

If this works, please post back!
