looking for resources on dance percussion

i can slap together drum loops with hats, kicks, snares, crashes what have you, but I need some quality advice on both arrangement and the atmospheres people add to their percussion.

i have noticed a lot of trance and dance tunes in general have little 3 or 4 note loops after every 2 or 4 bars of drums, but my attempts to recreate that sort of thing have ended up a bit shocking.

any help please?

small tip:
listen to a track with kick ass percs and try to recreate it
layer your kicks with a high low and mid freq then compress
layer your percs like crazy (experiment)
eq everything
do a search for past posts

If you know how to work compression (and I mean to the point where compression is your bitch) that will help out loads.

I feel the same way.. about the whole percussion thing...

In all these tracks i am hearing the percussion , hi hats and extra samplings just sounds so tight.. It carries the whole track in a great way. and i never really figured out how it was really done. sorry for any errors i am little overworked

But be warned allot of bassdrum samples which you find on internet/cd have already been compressed.

what about the claps ? or snare drum ?
I always compress them, an original clap sample just sounds too weird

First of all, bass drums definately need compression

As for the rest of the percs, I think they are not absolutely necessary but compression may make the percussion seem more "in-your-face"

But unless you know what you are doing, it is not a good idea to just compress "because i heard you should compress everything"
