'Fahrenheit' turns on box office heat

God- Does this just sound totally staged and blown up?
Im sure the moore crew bought 1/2 the tickets alone. Funny.
I mean- I'm probably going to go see it (not paying for it- god forbid- im sure it will show up on the internet soon)

Michael Moore's anti-Bush film breaks the single-day records at the two New York theaters.
June 24, 2004: 6:46 AM EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Director Michael Moore's controversial documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11" turned on the box office heat in its first day in theaters breaking single-day records at the two New York City theaters where it played.

The movie, which aims a critical eye at President Bush and his prosecution of the war in Iraq, sold $49,000 worth of tickets at the Loew's Village 7 theater, beating the venue's single-day record of $43,435 held by 1997's "Men in Black," according to distributors Lions Gate Films and IFC Films.

At the Lincoln Plaza theater, "Fahrenheit 9/11" took in more than $30,000 to top the $24,013 set by "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" in 2000.

A spokesman for Lions Gate Films said the company debuted the movie in the two theaters to help build good word-of-mouth -- friend telling friend -- publicity ahead of the wide debut Friday when it plays in 868 theaters in all 50 states.

The film has caused a storm of controversy because director Moore, whose past work includes Oscar-winning documentary "Bowling for Columbine," makes a case that the Bush administration was determined to invade Iraq following the Sept. 11 attacks.

The movie links Bush family members and business associates with wealthy Saudi Arabian families, including that of Osama bin Laden, and Moore clearly wants to see the president fail to win re-election in this fall's presidential campaign.

Groups have organized support for and against the movie, and audiences appear to be keen to see it.

Online ticket service Fandango.com reported Wednesday that "Fahrenheit 9/11" was making up 48 percent of advance ticket sales for the weekend ahead, compared to 11 percent for "Dodgeball" and 9 percent for next week's "Spider-Man 2."

Even USA Today had a lengthy write up in it and gave it 3.5 stars.

They did mention that he does things like interview grieving families and soldiers who no longer support the war but doesn't interview the families and soldiers who still do support the war and Bush.

Why would he? It would only just go against the point he's trying to make. The unbiased crap he's yelling about? Someone as extreme as Moore has no choice but to be biased.

Sure, I'll see it. I want Bush out of office as much as most liberals do, not because of "war," however.

Don't think he'll be too successful in convincing people, though. Liberals already probably agree with it, conservatives will just complain about it, and I don't think there are enough of us moderates to make a big difference.

Yeah I didn't mean he should show it because it was obviously go against the whole point of the movie, what I meant was he shows a few people weeping and some disguntled soldiers and presents those almost as though they are facts that that the war is unjustified and wrong when they are merely opinions and the same can be done in a pro war movie.

I'm no fan of Moore or mr. Cow, and no fan of Bush either. I just hope that people who see this movie understand it is not a documentary and should not affect their opinion, well not too much at least.
In any case I might rent it, but hell if there isn't any boobies in the movie I ain't watching it!

Do Mr. Moore's boobs not count then? His man boobs are bigger than many females.

Sorry, but the dude's a fat-ass. He had to photo shop his pic in the F911 movie poster so he wouldn't like the the Stay-Puff man next to Bush.
