Who here makes IDM?

Not really sure whether I have got the genre right but i'm talking 'bout Aphex Twin type stuff.

I make a fair bit... and just wanted to see if there's any other TA's who have found themselves better at making IDM than anything else.

cya's

P.S

correct me if i'm wrong about the genre

I try to listen to IDM at times (Aphex Twin, Autechre etc.), but I must admit it seems to complex for me to compose. I have a friend though who has been into IDM for many, many years, and who is also composing it for his own joy for over five years or so.

I would love to get some know-how on that myself, it seems really great to broaden your horizons on makin sounds.
I guess the main thing is make yourself free from the common patterns and try to do some diferent samples that sounds good on the ears, and arrange them on a musicaly pleasant way. Easier said than done though.

It's called "intelligent dance music" because in fact, those who make it are more intelligent than trance scum!

The more you know!

Knowin more dun means they are more inteligent or not.
Inteligence and knowledge arent linked. Though one calls for the other, they dun need to depend on each other.

No doubt that ppl who can make it are inteligent since it requires a lot of study and creativity, but that doesnt means a trance producer dun hav the potential to learn what is needed for IDM (as long as he likes the genre). besides, not every trance producer that is limited to a single kind of sound does so for lack of knowledge/inteligence, but for money, since IDM isnt music for the masses.

That's a load of bull you've written there. Nobody said anything about knowledge. What kind of language are you writing there? Are the five key strokes you save really worth the moron image that comes with "Knowin more dun means..."?

Experimental music does not require more study or creativity than any other kind, in fact I sometimes think it requires significantly less musical abilities. Much of it is inability masked as avantgarde. It's not harder to make than trance, it's not of higher quality, it's not something you need intelligence for. It's simply another musical style.

The name alone, "IDM", exudes so much condescendance and contempt for all the "lesser styles" that it makes me sick.

I'm also fed up with morons who say that if the wrong people, or too many people like what you do, you're selling out and you're not genuine, fuck that. I make the music I do because I love to hear it, and it is an insult to insinuate that the popularity of my favourite genre makes me somehow fake, or less of an artist. Especially when it comes from someone who doesn't even have enough respect to try and make an effort to write good English.

Respect is the real issue here.

Yes it does require more knowledge. Trance is popular, u can get into a forum like this one and find tutorial about how to build a trance pad, how to make usual trance basslines, and these process are pretty much similar for most productions, changing mainly the song feeling and soul that the creativity of the musician puts on it.
While u cant find these kind of info for IDM, simply cuz its not a style that follows certain patterns, u need to mess with really diferent and complex-to-make sounds. I dun think theres any insult on it to any ppl that (like me) lovs and makes trance, its just a diff style.
If u felt ofended by this statment, i repeat, u hav a probelm, not me.

Really?
State where i said u r a fake artist for makin trance? Dun get your paranoias and talk like they came from me.
Which cave u came from, btw m8?
I hav been on this forum for some years and almost never saw ppl fighting here, with very few exceptions, maybe cuz most here are mature ppl that wants to share info and debate ideias. Now comes u and attacks and insults me becuz u dun agree with my points? Is that what your ideia of respect? If so, u should go back to school and learn how to debate things educately, cuz u sounds lika an uga-buga caveman that cant wait to thow a rock on any1 that looks at u.

I can't take you seriously when you write crap like that. You obviously understand about as much about music as you understand about grammar, expression and spelling.
