I'm come to the conclusion it really isn't worth setting up and irc server for just a txta channel. I'd be happy to do it if I had a server to host it on, but all I have is webspace on a shared server so I'm restricted to installing applications etc. I could host it from home but I don't know how bandwidth intensive it would be on my mediocre connection, plus uptime may be an issue. I think the best and easiest option is to form the channel on an existing irc network.
Anyway, all of you irc nerds out there, we need to decide on the right irc network for the channel to exist on, so start suggesting!
There are some things to consider though, for example, I use undernet a lot as there are some channels on there that I'm a part of... but I don't really like the network because there aren't any nickop and chanop services to administer things (and I can't be fkd setting up bots), and it's annoying that nicknames are restricted in length (can't remember to what)...
