Nah... forget that old style thinking. This past weekend I went to see a killer lineup that included Deep Groove, Marco V, M.I.K.E. and Astral Projection AND EVERY ONE OF THE USED ONE OF THE NEW MIXING TOOLS.
I'm assuming they got paid. They most certainly were "playing out somewhere". It took all of one song for each of them to hook into the club's sound system.
There will always be ludites who think that vinly is better than CDs, analogue is better than digital, horse and carriages are better than cars, etc. But the people who are shaking up the world of dance music have all uniformly embraced new technologies.
Go for it. Have fun.
(I bought RS Scratch and love it., BTW... FS makes me a bit nervous though.)

err... Chris... i think he meant that playing downloaded mp3's on new mixing technology is bad, not the technology or methods themselves. i believe he was referring to the situation where you buy something like SSL to just download mp3s off the web and not pay for your music, yet try to get paid for playing it, aside from it being a huge disrespect to the artists, it's also shitty because the sound quality would generally suck...
