Dunno CPUs: Intel vs AMD for producing

I'm sure this has been asked before but I am not pulling up anything useful with "search". Perhaps I can get some advise.

I'm looking to upgrade my system. As it stands right now, I have Intel P4 2.2 that I want to take up to 3.06HT. Due to my motherboard limitations, I can't upgrade it to use Dual Chanel DDR RAM. So, if I decide to swap my MOB0 and go for a new one, I want to know if I should go with Intel or AMD. If anyone has any experience with Reason + FL + Ableton Live + Cubase + Kontakt + VSTi's + Atmosphere running on AMD CPU, your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

My understanding is that there are some stability/compatibility issues when working with AMD. Though, the pricepoint is attractive.

Keep in mind that I will be running it through MOTU 828 MKII and RME Multiface.

Thanks peeps!

i am running cubase + kontakt + shitload of other vstis on amd xp 2200 with 768 mb of sdram (pc133), and i am pretty satisfied with it, apart from the fact that the cpu is not up to my needs as far as raw power is in question. for you, it might be the best solution just to pop a new cpu in your mobo, since dual channel ram is not twice as fast as single channel, and the memory bandwidth is definitely not an issue when working in audio. and i think i will change soon, but i'll get an amd cpu, i consider intel largely overpriced. it is up to you.

Just thought I'd throw my two cents in. I currently own 3 different Amd computers 2 made buy emachines (3000Amd 64 and a 3000Amd) and one 2200 Amd built buy myself. My main computer the Amd 3000 tower with 1 Gig Ram I run protools le and alot of the other plugins and programs you have listed. In my expereince on just a simple Emachine Amd computer 3000 I can run albetron live, reason with like 12 Drrex 7 Malstroms, 5 samplers, 4 redrums 12 Reverbs, 5 atmospheres, and 2 Sample tanks and numerous audio wave tracks 15-20 with Waves plugins on all the tracks. the only time its ever crashes is if I use to many Waves reverbs. I would go with an Amd 3000 or higher the 64 bit prossesor is not worth the money yet. Also look into throwing a couple Tc power cord cards on there. I have never had any major problems with amd computers except when using Sonar 3.0 wich I have now ditched because it sucks ass. 2 other friends ditched it to because it is just full of bugs.
