Excise Taxes. What does the money go to
Ok, I was looking at my phone bill for my cell phone.
I know there are taxes from the FCC etc.
the E911 tax of .90 on every invoice.
and a Federal tax of 3% which is an excise tax.
What the hell is the Excise tax paying for???
this tax is also applied primarily to fuels/tabacco products/ and other random goods.
I just wanted to know if anyone knew what the hell this tax pays for. What does the federal government need to pay for regarding my wireless service that should not be applied to my service provider?
Just curious to see if anyone can explain it to me.
Thanks

being able to find out exactly what the telecommunications excise tax pays for exactly could prove to be impossible since all revenues end up within the IRS along with all other excise tax. whether it goes to a collective for all taxes and disseminated throughout government or remains separate and pays for telecomm infrastructure, i don't know.
i would speculate on the former since it's original purpose was to fund the Spanish-American war 1898.
