Here's some of it.

Paul Oakenfold was a huge disappointment. Granted, I really didn't expect him to go off because he didn't the last two times that I saw him, but I sure as hell didn't expect the man to walk off the stage in the middle of his set. WTF? Yes, he did have a good set, but honestly...I have heard better sets than that. He was all over the place. His mixes weren't clean and they didn't flow as well as you would expect from a big name. He spun trance, house, breaks, progressive. I understand that he was a little annoyed in the beginning because of the sound issue (feedback from the mic) but that got fixed and he had 2 1/2 hours after that to come back. He started to build once and it came back down. Then he did it again and after Naked Angel I really thought the man was just going to go off. We were all anticipating it. Nothing. He exited the stage. He was done. For those of you that don't think it was a big deal...would it help to know that he was brought in there to spin from 12am - 3am and gave no indication whatsoever that he was going to end early? He basically told the guys on the stage that he wasn't into it and that he was "done" spinning. What? That place was packed wall to wall...with every hand in the air...on a freakin Tuesday night. That place was a madhouse and the vibe was insane. Never mind that this is days before WMC and was right after two big shows (Sasha & DJ Santana). Is he crazy? He started to build up with phat ass trance and then excused himself to a side room to go hang out with some groupies. Sorry if I sound bitter, but I honestly feel like he disrespected the AMP and our town. He could have at least made up an excuse or said something to us. You don't just stop spinning at 2:15am when the club closes at 3am and let some breaks DJ from NY come on to finish your set. Liquid Todd seemed like a nice guy, but what was with the old school disco breaks? Horrible ending. He cleared the dance floor and killed the club. The vibe in the club diminished within 5 minutes. You could feel it and you could see it. |

He did a 2 hour set alright... came on at 12:15am and played until 2:15. Only problem, the club didn't close until 3, so he just up and quit after two hours and let K-Todd (or whatever the hell his name is - all I know is that he killed the crowd) close out. Unheard of! I have never been to a show where the headliner didn't close out. Tiesto, Ferry, PvD, Sasha - all of them have blown up the room right until they raised the house lights.
The hell of it is, up til now I was a big Oakenfold fan. He was the first trance DJ I ever heard. I've enjoyed his music selection over the years, and it wasn't like he didn't have a good set at the Amp (anyone got a track list?). He spun some stuff that had the crowd going nuts. But to just say "ok, 2 hours, I'm done"...? Inexcusable. I lost a good bit of respect for him last night. And if I were the club owner, I doubt I'd ever invite him back.
