Those cracking and popping records.

Is there a way to restore those cracking and popping records? Or maybe there is some kind of sound filter I can purchase? I have this record that I really like, but it cracks and pops loudly. I tried Gruv Glide on it several times and still does not do the trick.

I use Shure M44-7 carts.

Unfortunately I really don't think there is much you can do for it. I have the same problem with BT - Mercury & Solace.... sucks

Most of the time crackling comes from either a static-charged record, dirt and dust in the record, or a dirty needle. If you've tried cleaning the record, I'd suggest using a needle brush on your needle. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what to tell you. I've had that with a lot of records, and usually it goes away after a couple plays.

if you get anti-static wipes, and anti-static sleeves, and also you can get magic resin stuff that can help get rid of small scratches and stuff.

i have only seen it at www.htfr.com in the vinyl care section, but i am sure you will be able to get it somewhere else for cheaper.

Yeah, I have stylus cleaning kit as well that I use regularly. Like TwoPlow suggested, I'll try to play it several times and see if popping and cracking goes away.

Haven't checked that resin stuff out yet. Also, if I change tracking weight, will anything change?

Why use shure carts if you're not scratching? :S
Anyway, which weight settings do you use on the Shure?

I got those needles in the package I purchased on ebay. Also, it is impossible for that model of carts to skip (for a test, I tried everything to make them skip, they simply refuse, except when you physically push the cart with the finger) and they have the least wear on records.

I have 1.5 set on them. I am beginning to think that it is too little weight, but again, they don't skip at all.

That explains. 1,5 is far from enough.
The story with needle weight is this (I've said this in another topic too):

The heavier you set your needle (to a certain limit), the better sound quality you get and the faster your records wear. 1,5g is REALLY light, so indeed you practically don't have any wear but your sound quality sucks like hell too (cracking and popping )

Try setting it to 3. That's double the weight but still pretty light (I use 3,5 on my Ortofons), so the wear won't be that bad (it really starts when you set it higher than 4 grams).

I always thought if the needle weight is too much/ or too little, the sound quality deteriates...

Well, the majority of my records play fine at that setting. If my other records would have this problem, I would have mentioned it. I'll try to set it to 3.0 and see if that will minimize cracks and pops. M44-7 has very little overall wear on records anyway.
