Hi, all my life I have been using a Pioneer DJM 500 mixer which I love to death. I don’t think there are any other mixer better then the pioneer IMO. I have been asked to DJ a private party for a close friend tomorrow night and he told me that he is going to rent the Rane MP2016 with the XP2016 add-on at the party. I borrowed this mixer from a friend that used to DJ so I can familiarize myself before I go on tomorrow.

The mixer is really good, and sounds unbelievable but I cannot figure out how to cue two channels (turntable 1, turntable2) in the headphones. With the Pioneer DJM 500 it lets you listen to any channel all at once through the headphones before you bring up the channel to the master. The way I mix is one song will play through the master and I will hear the song that is playing through the master in the headphones PLUS the next channel which will be played in the headphones. I noticed with the rane that it only lets you listen to the master through the headphones and nothing else or listen to each INDIVIDUAL track through the headphone.

Is there a way I can get the mixer to allow me to hear more then one channel through the headphones.?????

Nope, but a new version has just been released, or will be released soon that has split cue.

I own a Pioneer DJM 600, and have been beatmatching with both channles cued forever. The club i spin at has the Rane, and I'm forced to deal with cueing only one channel when I'm playing. I basically try to emulate two cued channels, by wearign both headphoen cups half on, and half off both ears. This way I can hear the cued channel in both ears, as well as a lot of the sound from the monitors. I know it sounds a little weird, but I haven't had any trouble at all.

Split cue is also something totally different. With split cue, you hear the CUE in your left ear and the master in your right. I simply put both channels in the cue (easy on a Dateq XTC).

I know this doesn't help you now but you really should learn to mix against monitors. I used to make the same mistake when I owned the DJM-600 of monitoring both tracks over each other in my headphones. I was trapped in my own little world when I would DJ.

Once I got the Rane 2016 I was force to match against monitors. Always having one ear to the crowd totally opened me up and made me a much better DJ.
