Track Key?

so ive taken some time to think about all the different things which can help me become a better DJ and it's occurred to me that theres more to mixing than just matching beats(duh). having some knowledge about music structure and whatnot probably helps in some way or another. can somone help?

ive read a few posts which talk about a tracks "key"

how do you find which key the track is in, and how is it relevant to a track?

The easiest way to do it is the "Search" button, but I'll be nice and provide you the link to the huge thred on harmonic mixing.

Good luck, it rocks
Keying tunes is easy if you got a MIDI keyboard and some softsynth. Some people seem to use a guitar though.

The first day of keying wasn't very good, lots of errors and a few I couldn't even begin to understand.
After a few days I got almost (95%+) of the tunes right and now I'm almost completely sure about them all.

Great page for this, at least until you're semi-pro (I can't key without it, except for 2 or 3 keys): http://www.apassion4jazz.net/keys.html

Less than 5 minutes per song isn't a lot of time to me. Usually you can hear it within a minute but I usually try to make sure.

Also once you have been doing it for a while you can actually hear the key without even picking up an instrument. Just takes a little time.

Cheers

Music structure? Almost all dance songs are in 4/4 time and follow 8 measure phrases. You shouldn't just lay down beats whenever you want. But yes, key matching (as long as you don't adjust pitches too much) can definately give you an edge when it comes to making songs phrase better together.
