Sound is alright, but to really appreciate them, you have to use them in a club....as for the swivel, they do break often, but I'v had mine like 2 years with no problem, and I don't treat mine well, if they break I'll buy some different cans...oh well.

Love these. Used them for every party, for practicing, and they just rock. They are like a tank for me. I've put them through hell and they are still in one piece.

I've had my MDR V700 for many years now (prob 5+). And the swivels broke quite some time ago. I managed to keep it together by tying the swivel around with really thin metal wires (you know, the kind they use in those twisties that you tie garbage bags with). Pretty ghetto but it gets the work done.

One thing about them is if you wear them for long periods normally (vs dj-style) they can be uncomfortable. The problem is the earcups are perfectly circular, not cylindrical/oval. Thus the top and bottom of the earcups will end up pressing on your ear. It's especially uncomfy if you wear glasses as well.

Other than that the phones are great. Nice and bassy.

Luck I guess?

I'm convinced they're masochistic. I abuse mine, theyre fine after 2 years. Everyone who complains about them breaking talk about how well they have treated. MDR-V700s are like women, if you want em to stick around, treat them like shit.

I've had mine for at least 3 years now, and the swivels broke probably 2 years ago, and just recently the fake leather earcups started cracking and chipping off, about 1/3 of one of the cups is gone, although thats partially my fault because it's so damn fun to pick it off

I fixed the swivels with small zip ties, and the earcups are still just as comfortable (or UNcomfortable when wearing for long periods of time or with glasses) as they originally were, despite the cracked leather.
