This could be the final gem from the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth.

As we should all know by now, Kerry has not signed his SF180, which is the standard military records release form. There have been various theories on why that has never occurred, the most serious of which was the status of his discharge.

Well, if you're like me, and you troll the political blogs 24/7, you'll notice that a couple of the "Swifties" have started to drum up support for a Sunday rally at the steps of the US Capitol. I don't think it's been officially set yet, but the interest is there. Why, you ask?

Earlier today, one of the leaders of the Swifties stated that they finally have the one man who can verify a such a less than honorable discharge. A former Secretary of the Navy.

Unfortunately, this has come a bit too late in the process to have the proper effect. We'll be consumed with bin Laden this weekend. A week ago would have been nice, but apparently the Secretary only just agreed to go forward with the info.

It's already past midnight across much of the US, and the bloggers keyboards are still hot.

Latest news:

Swifties are holding off on the rally, and are planning it for the week after the election - regardless of who wins.

Apparently, some Bush staffers got in touch with the group and told them to hold off. Internal polling numbers look good for Bush right now, and they believe they can win with the current situation - and don't want any more surprises.

Makes sense to me. It's probably better to deal with what you know at this point.

yes we are. Gore came to a high school rally on friday, maybe a 1000 showed up.

GOP headquarters has already sold out (given out) 13,000 tickets to Cheney's speech at the convention center tomorrow! it's huge.

the folks really like the republican Governor Linda Lingle and the state has turned a corner politically.

I can't be any more definite than that, but World Net Daily picked up on the internet buzz, and had someone "in the know" pen a column early this morning that lays out some of the facts.

This Swift Boat thing is ridiculous. They have so many holes in their story and there are more important things to worry about than Vietnam recollections in 2004. If you like Bush for his policies, I personally disagree with you, but I disagree with him on that, not on his military record.
The Swift Boat Vets first off have a partisan agenda. Their financial backing has come from large Republican donors and John O'Neil was even considered for a judicial vacancy by W's father when he was president. Lifetime he has made $15,000 in contributions...all to Republicans.
They keep claiming Kerry only served for 4 months, but how would 4 months constitute his 2nd tour of duty? Because they fail to mention he served on the USS Gridley for a tour prior to volunteering to be a Swift Boat captain. The vet who claims to have treated Kerry for his wounds was not the doctor who signed as the doctor who treated him according to records. And one of them who claims that there was no gunfire when Kerry saved his crewmember from the water reeived an award stating that he had come under fire in the same incident.
They also claim in a commercial that Kerry accused all troops of committing war crimes. He felt he had made a mistake by firing in free-fire zones which could have still contained civilians and he stated in his testimony before the house that he had met with vets in Detriot who had said they had committed war crimes, he wasn't refering to all veterans. but they edit his testimony to make it seem lke he did.
Check out the archives on Factcheck.org and you can see all that he said when he testified and what was left out in the commercials. You can also check out Bushand Kerry's misleading claims too, because neither is perfect and you can make a better decision on who to vote for based on the facts.
