be prepared to play longer than your alloted 1hour. sasha has a habit of coming on late and telling the warmup to play on.

if i were you i would just play what you play..thats what got you the gig, and if its not right then its the promoters fault.

i'm gonna disagree with this. Ur booked just before a huge Dj, meaning that the promoter's expecting a warm-up set. Play for what ur booked as n get the crowed going n ready for the headliner. Nothing pissses me off more than a warm-up Dj playing banging anthem after anthem n by the time the headliner arrives the crowed is exhausted as hell. Rather than a really melodic, uplifting set, I'd play some darker, deeper tunes with little breakdowns n leave sasha to work from there. However, id say theres nothing wrong ending ur set with an awsome tune, leaving the crowd wanting more n ready for sasha.

yeah as an opener he must keep it on the toned down side but he should throw in 2 or 3 major tunes at DIFFERENT times in his set

I think the only thing that should be off limits to the warm up DJ is original or remixed material that was put out by the headliner. Other than that, have at it.
It pissed me off to hear people say that the warm up DJ should hold back so the headliner looks good or has an easy go of it. What kind of crap is that? If the "headliner", who is getting paid mad cash, cant surpass anything a local can throw down...well then, maybe he shouldn't be the headliner. So many of these "headliners" (and I'm not saying Sasha is one of them) are no talent ass clowns that are just riding on their names its not even funny...they need a wake up call.
So I'm gonna agree with svens_bath, twizta should be able to play exactly how he normally plays with no worries.

Play whatever you feel is right for the mood of the place and the audience. Make sure to tell us all how it went.

Did it ever occur to you that a dj's title when they are playing before a headliner is :
opener
warm-up dj
etc


It's also about a nights progression. You want it to peak near the end not have some jackass with no sense of building up an evening who slams it right when the doors open

I hate it when there's a dj who's trying to slam it when he's at an opening slot.

Its not a competition with the local dj vs. headliner. I'm not suggesting u play a crap set so the headliner looks good. Ofcourse not! There are amazing warm-up set out there (check out Jonathan lisles ones for bedrock). It all comes down to creating an unforgettable night for the clubbers ...and like u said, sasha's never been to china before so it'll be wild!
