Hi guys, have any of you experienced this? When I use several synths along with 20 or so samples in FL Studio (4.5.2.) I suffer from a crackle etc when I play them altogether! I have changed my audio settings in the ASIO panel to try and make it better. I then progress to increase the latency to 500 from 50, although this makes it slightly better it isn't cured! I am running a P4 3.0GHZ, 512MB Ram and a Creative Labs Audigy soundcard! If anyone has over come this please let me know - would be greatly appreciated!

PS. If you suggest a new soundcard then fair enough. Been looking at the M-Audio Audiophile 192 - good choice?

a new soundcard wont do anything to aleviate the cpu load. so dont even bother buying one unless you want more inputs/outputs.

what synth plugins are you using? some synth plugins eat cpu for breakfast, especially when you run several instances of them with high polphony. z3ta+ is a big offender. vanguard can sometimes get ridiculuous if you make pads/leads with high polyphony. some synths like dirtbag are just badly programmed and take a huge cpu hit when you simply add them.

Sounds strange for those system specs. I can run about 4 instances of z3ta and all the fx i need without a whole lot of trouble. Maybe try a different set of drivers. My latency is set to 25 ms. Try disabling some of the more useless functions in fruity. turn off all the visual feedback, they are inaccurate and thus pointless anyways.

Someone else pointed this tip out earlier to improve performance in FL. Click on the menu box on the mixer and select "switch smart disable for all". It reduced CPU load on one of my tracks by over 20%.

Crackling? Wouldn't that usually just be a soundcard problem? I mean, his computer is fast, and the only thing not up to speed is his sound card.. soooo.. maybe, just maybe, thats the problem

I experience the same thing and my computer runs off of a 3ghz processor, and tons of memory, plus I use a Extigy so the sound card shouldn't be the problem.

Yes, but you said you experience the same thing... hence a common similarity between the two systems is creative cards. Speaks for itself?

set your latency to as high as it can go and itll fix the problem or set your asio to half duplex instead of full duplex which will allow it to manage it better in my experience with creative cards

I see the general consensus is a new sound card! Like I said above I have been checking out M-Audio Audiophile 192. Is this a wise choice?

once again. a new soundcard wont alleviate cpu load which causes sound to skip and crackle. audigys have rubbish ASIO drivers though so take it off ASIO and use normal latency. thats whats probably causing the problem. render all audio tracks to loops and reassemble when it gets unbearable. i had an on board intel soundcard before i bought an m-audio delta 1010. i can and have switched between them whilst producing and there is no noticable difference in pops and cracks, no noticeable difference in cpu load and no noticeable difference in sound reproduction. the only thing i do notice when i siwtch to the delta 1010 is that i now have 8 ins/outs, SPDIF connectivity and midi connectivity instead of a headphone jack on the back of my pc. which is very useful. you can buy a new soundcard if you really want to but it really wont make that much difference. even the ASIO on my delta isnt fantastic since im maxing out the ASIO latency and most of my productions still become crackled when my CPU loads hits the upper 90s.
