Losing stuff

I've been pretty careful lately to keep my computer at it's edge when it comes to spyware / adware, viruses and general computer problems but yesterday all hell broke lose. I got a virus , which crept behind my ever so updated virus protection program ,fucked up my regestry and my pc rebooted a couple of times untill it came to a screeching halt , i could'nt load up windows, nothing worked, so i started to format my O/S drive ,installed windows with my new windows xp pro w/SP2. The installation went like a charm windows was back up after about an hour , then i had to install drivers to my raid card , and when i got it back up my eyes started swelling up, i wanted to cry, my backup drive (a 200 gb western digital(i have two of those)) had been formatted ,everything was gone over 8 gb of samples and refills for reason ,all my tracks gone, gone up in smoke, all my work in 3d studio max, also gone. everything that was on that drive is now gone.

I've been trying to run various recovery programs and it can't find a single thing.
And to top it all off i was getting a 16x dual layer dvd burner this thursday so i could backup my backup drive

Has any of you ever gotten this kinda trouble before and how did you start over ? As a producer it's my oppinion this is the worst thing that has happened to me.

And to make it more eligible to the producers forum i'll add a link to a remix i was doing of Lee Haslam - music is the drug , it's not completly finished ,since i was about to finish it when my computer got fucked

Lee Haslam - Music is the drug (Tomas P 2004 epic club mix)
(pretty fun to name tracks like that)

If you're not gonna ask ppl sending you appz and samples in the next post, i feel for you.
There are companies that can reconstruct the content, if its worth the money/time for you.

Btw. Thanks for Arason, heh

I haven't gone through anything like this yet thank god.
but there is still hope to recover what's on your disc. When a drive gets formated it doesn't get completly wiped. there are companys that are specialized on recovering lost information. (this is why big companys never give away their old drives when upgrading their companys systems)

so all hope hasn't gone away yet, you should try to find a company that can do that for ya

I lost everything I had once. Looking back to it now it allowed me a fresh start and it actually made my productions better since I had to recreate everything I had.

I found the same as Mr Mystery, it helped my productions, as when I re-constructed my HDD, I structured everything better, installed less crap etc....

You have to format and rewrite a disk 10 times in a row to totally erase the information on a disk, so you should be able to recover it. But I don't know if a simple software will do. It's up to you.

I've been in the same situation. I started over from scratch.

what software recovery programs have you used. ive formatted a sevral 200gig drives with assloads of mp3s and samples and been able to succesfull recover most all of them. the issue with recovering is sometiems youll end up witha f ew files framented with other files. for example one mp3 will be playing and about 3mintues it for 10seconds itll play a differnt mp3 and then switch back. this is due to the reconstruction of the fragmentented files. try getdataback ive used it sevral times to recover data. even tho i had formatted about 4 or 5 times since i was able to recover older windows isntalations so i could get my vstis back. but yeah try it it should work good most of the time.

That program you pointed out to me is working like a bloody charm
i downloaded some version from their site and i'm doing better with that one than i did with ehm... pirated versions of some high end software.

Thank you

i did it wasnt all that shabby, yeah getdataback ownz me ive used a few differnt kinds and i found that one to work the best. also some version of higher end software depend on your disk format ie. fat32 ntfs so youd have to download the proper version. but yeah its a great tool for recovering software but like i said only issue is sometimes it will confuse file and recover them with fragments of other files that arent the right kind but hey it works for the most part.
