Turntables are turntables. You have the turntablist (people who scratch and whatnot) tables which generally take advantage of a straight tone arm while the people who mix generally benefit more from a curved tonearm. Needles are slightly different, eliptical vs. spherical -- different types of wear and tracking properties. Scratch mixers are generally two channels and they don't rely heavily on using EQs, more the crossfader is whats important. On the other hand, people who mix usually rely more on the EQs and neglect the crossfader, working more with the upfaders for each channel.
