I remember the days when i would religiously check the file and singles sections for choons, this was before i discovered audiogalaxy and later soulseek, ftpz, dc, etc...
I'm not sure if anyone even uses TA for downloading music anymore (i'm sure some still do), although the last time i checked, most of the tracks were in desperate need of freshening up.
Oh, and not that it matters a great deal, but TA could definately use a face lift...2005 upon us, and this site hasn't changed too much in the last 4 ears as far as the main template goes (not saying it's bad...just that it could be a lot better)
Still, as long as the community is thriving, the cosmetic details aren't really that important -- i'd rather see improvements in areas like the ones made for the new events forum which is a great idea.

Actually, the main pages receive 70% of the visitors, there is still a new download every 20 seconds on average - with about 4 dedicated servers solely for that.
The point of the download section(s) was to introduce people to this music and for others that are already into it to have access to downloads which are easily accessible aka not forcing you to go through hoops and hurdles and stupid registration procedures just so sites can artificially inflate their membership figures. Updates have come slowly in the singles section because years ago it was starting to become annoyingly difficult to acquire permission from artists/labels to put tracks up for download - especially with the way MP3s were looked upon at the time - now, it is a little different, with digital per-pay-downloads becoming more popular - and free distribution (of singles) not seen as commercially viable (even for promo purposes - you can use mixes for that).
The reason there hasn't been a facelift is because I've been busy with other things and get sidetracked consistently - since I have just always done this in my spare time - but the redesign is going to happen soon. Alot of the work that has gone on over the years has been in the background, coding & customization and such. For instance, in the past month I've implemented proper geo-targetting of ads (by state/province/country) so that users from Vancouver aren't seeing ads for Tiesto at the Docks, etc. Also the Unknown tracks samples stuff went in last night, and later this week (if not early next) the Photo Gallery/Photopost forum integration is going to go into place.
There are lots more interesting things coming but I can't spill all the beans yet.

wow very cool
70% of the traffic for the main pages ?
maybe you should put up a few "classics" instead of "new tracks", don't know.
and the forums might be more "reachable", i feel like there's no comment to say the forums are the biggest part, only the link at the top but still...
good to hear things are changing. I've always considered TA as the greatest trance boards on the web, for the quality of its members and of its debates; but by comparison with trance.nu, it seems to be less "dynamic", if you know what i mean.
When you goto trance.nu you can see the latest topics on the right (really makes me check a few topics everytime i get there), they also organise parties...
I like my TA forums as they are, but new ideas are always welcome, i'm sure you have plenty of but still
also maybe direct links to great threads such as "a small history of trance", "beginner's guide to trance" or "classics from 92 to 2001" - or add them as a new section on the site... this board is such a huge source of informations... it's just hard to find them sometimes, and for someone who just comes on the site for the first time even more.
