for people outside of europe its cool... that way when i go traveling in europe i can just use the same currency everywhere, instead of having to come home with useless change from every country you visit.

I work in foreign exchange and actually all the currencies from the countries that make up the Euro we dont even trade in anymore...like the spanish pesata...or the irish punt...or greek drachma...all those have been dead currencies for trading since the installation of the euro in 99...the only thing now is that those currencies will be totally desolved and the euro will be the only real currency of those countries...it makes it alot easier on us tourists to only have to carry one form of currency rather then having to exchange it all the time...hehehehe

I dont really think it is gonna change that much... the euro has been around for two years already...The only thing is that they were changing it lil by lil for common europian countries.Like twilochik said.. it is still worth the same... just going to change the name pretty much.

^^^I think it'll be a 'lil more than that. Because now (in 2 months) will be the first time anybody actually has the money in his hands.
Also, TV stations are asking people on the streets for the conversion. like: "this bread costs 2 euro, how much is that in DM" and half the people answer it's 1 DM (but it's 4!)
And this after every price tag you see has both prices on it for years now...
There will be a lot of confusion. At first in Germany you will feel like you only earn half the money (for example get a 2000 on your paycheck instead of 4000). It's worth the same, of course but still...
And I'm still wondering how they want to change all the coffee/cigarette/sweets machines that you use with coins. Cause we get all new coins...new sizes, weight and all.
Glad that's not my problem...
@Dream Girl, when will ABT be home?

lol....this post made me laff like hell!
you obviously have no idea what you are talking about. i agree very much with dawn's post. It is gonna be hard to calculate what all the articles will be worth in our own currency and damn...not to mention the prices that will be raised. And the Italian Lire for example.....it's worth shit! And that affects the entire currency of the euro...
And I don't like the fact that we are gonna lose our own guilders...I know people that saved up all the coins and bills and they made a collage out of it lol...i can't get myself to do that because I ned all the money that I can lay my hands upon
Anywayz...this is all very convenient for all you tourists...and we are gonna get all the trouble that comes with it....like dawn said...."what about all the coin machines"
i heard them say that they will change them in the 1 or 2 months in which we can get used to the euro...
A well...I'll see how it will go

The Euro is almost equivalent with the USD...it trades at a rate of .9..... So that's close to 1=1. GBP trades at a rate of 1.4.... which is for 1 USD you get like .40 GBP. Figuring out the rates really isnt that hard. Euro compared to DEM right now is at a rate of 1.something...which means that you get more DEM then Euro...but, Proximus..the Euro has its own conversion rate...the disolving of the particular currencies I do not think will not effect this rate at all. If it was going to I would think I would have heard about it. You all will just have to get used to thinking in Euro instead of NLG or DEM...or ITL....we do it when we come to europe...its not that hard. Maybe I just think its easy bc I work in a department where we trade foreign currency to make money. It's very easy to pick up on...I wouldnt worry too much that there will be too many problems...but like you said machines that take coins will have to be changed...but I'm sure they will allow usage of coins for a while even after the Euro is in place. Maybe when the Euro actually becomes a tangible currency they will format it after the USD....I know in many countries in europe alot of the currency is made up of coins...in america most of it is in paper bills....if they did that then the conversion wouldnt be so bad maybe. And I really had no idea that Euro was not a tangible currency as of yet. B/c right now we wire Euro to Germany and other countries that participate in the Euro...so you're telling me that when they recieve the Euro into their acct in oder to take it out and say use it in Germany they have to have it converted into DEM??? B/c when we make payments overseas for clients of ours they have an option of sending euro or sending euro with a message attached to convert to a certain currency. I always assumed that Euro was a tangible currency that was accepted in the countries that participated in the Euro. Just my thoughts coming from someone who does this for a living.
