Old style Trance vs new?

Can anyone tell me if it matters. or is there a market for older style of trance.

Unfortuinatly (sometimes), I am not a dj, I am a musician. So my background with trance music is only from my friends records and what he buys. I started listening to Trance around 1996-97 and have been influenced by producers such as Signum, early Kamya painters, labels like Suck me plasma, Heaven Beats and a few others that are not even around anymore. I don't buy records. I just make music.

I feel that the music I make has an older feel to it, and even though it sounds good to me, I question it sometimes.

If anyone has any feelings toward this please let me know. Maybe Im just crazy and shouldnt be concerned with it.

If the melodies are really great and the production is not too cheesy, I'll listen to the tune. The thing with more modern trance is that the quality of the song lies in many more elements then just a melody and for me this is a lot more enjoyable. Take for example:

Greed - Strange World (Blackwatch King Monkey Dub)

It doesn't really have any prominent melodies, but the use of synths and the percussion make this a great song and something new to enjoy.

For me, the older kind of stuff just gets boring I guess, but if the melodies are good, like Rank 1/Airwave then I'm in.

I've only been producing for like 7 months, so I don't know how labels react to older style trance, but I'm sure they are looking for more modern stuff...

My $0.02

New trance in my opinion is darker and more subtle, I love the new sound, and grew tired of all the over the top melodies in the older stuff.

I started to listen to trance in mid 90's. At that time I liked it a lot. Some days ago I found an old album with one of my favourite tunes from the "oldschool" trance. Sean Dexter - Mankind. Damn, what was I thinking? It IS a great tune, but compared to whats new these days it's a rather poor production. But I still like the old music.

i love the 98-99 sound. check out [P.E.G] - chiba (original mix) by one of our own TA's. incorporates that "old" sound, just awesome imo.

Thanks for all of your imput. I guess Im just gonna make what I make, and not worry about it. It seems that I can never really sit down and try to make a track that sounds like something. It just happens. or maybe I need to do some studying.

By starting, try to make music for your own pleasure, only dead fish follow the stream
