Igor K - sounds of progression 3

starts off with some deep house, progresses into some prog. house, followed by some prog. trance and tech-house. mixing at some points was an arduous task for me as i've tried to mix these diff. genres together, especially due to me mixing deep house for the first time. in any case, all comments/criticism welcome

tracklist:

1. Sasse - 1997 [Aesoteric Records]
2. Needs - Brother (Original Vibe) [Needs Music]
3. Silicone Soul - Devil Drives [Soma]
4. Mephisto Odyssey - Reach (Melon vs. Mephisto dub) [Primal Records]
5. Red & Blue - Quintos (James Harcourt remix) [Progress Inn]
6. Phasebase - Causin Trouble [Release Elements]
7. Three 'N One - Reflect 2003 (Oliver Klein remix) [Low Spirit Recordings]
8. Nicholas Bennison - Archetype [Propulsion]
9. Nick & John Delagelis - Bend Up (Steve Firaridis remix) [Modo Italy]
10. Tom Parris vs Alpha Male - And Now You See [Red Ant]
11. Jack Addicts - Another World [Minimal]

hope you guys enjoy...cheers

Great Set!
nice underground style and variation
you could work on beatmatching, playing with the "knobs" aka effects etc...
keep up the good work

First of all, it's nice how you've managed to blend various styles of music into one single mix, starting off with some deeper house, and going from deep and dark progressive house into somewhat more energetic progressive. Well done. Only letdown to me personally in this is that it made it quite hard for me to really get 'into' your mix, because of the variety of styles. Usually, I like DJs to take more time to really show what they can build up within a specific style, and to explore one genre to the fullest before going into something different. You know what I mean? If you've done this to showcase your abilities with various styles of music, it's no problem, only when you would do this at an actual live gig (even if you've only got an hour and a half), it wouldn't really appeal to me.

Second of all, you started off pretty good technically, but there were two moments in your mix which were plain awful (excusez le mot). First one is the transition around 31 minutes, the second one (by far the worst) around 44 minutes into your mix. Beats were simply drifting too far away for too long there, but I'm sure you've noticed that yourself as well.

A final point of critique is about the EQ levels in the mix. It could have been me, but especially in the beginning of your mix and in the final track, there was too much high for my liking. Stuff like that makes it less pleasant to listen to, really.

Taking this into consideration, you did a good overall job showcasing your mixing abilities with various styles of house music, although there are certainly points you could still work on. Have fun

And one question for you in return: what's the track at the 28 minute point? I liked it. I suspect it was Red & Blue - Quintos (James Harcourt remix), since it has a style similar to another track on Progress Inn I have myself, but I need to be sure. Thanks!

appreciate the candidness m8. as far as the styles are concerned i certainly wouldn't mix something like this in a club on account of the variation of genres..i just wanted to play around a bit and make it thus for fun and pleasure hehe. i'ver certainly noticed the blunders at around those marks, as you've noted...didn't take much time to plan this mix to be honest. As for the EQ levels, i've some shitty old Gemini mixer without knobs that i don't think even works properly lol...i tried turning the bass down which doesn't even seem to function on the mixer
the track at the 28 minute point is indeed the James Harcourt remix

also, in my next mix i'll try to include only 1 or 2 genres of house, unless i get carried away again
