Re: Hi...I need a little help from you guys...especially movie fans....
Melinda & Melinda : So Woody Allen is finally back in good shape. After some movies that didn't really meet ones expectations it is beatiful to see Allen on the level we are used to. During his career he has made himself famous for both his humour and his seriousness. In Melinda & Melinda these two meet characteristics at a special way, and it's both entertaining and something worth to think about.
The openingscene is a typical Allen-scene, a group of intellectual and creative Manhattan residents discuss and eat at a restaurant. They start talking about the difference between comedy and tragedy, and one man in the group starts to tell the beginning of a story. He then states it's up to the others to determine if his story becomes a comedy or a tragedy. The rest of the movie continues like that, we will see two versions developing, the one more humoristic and positive than the other with more emphasis to the tragedy.
Both the stories tell, as usual with Allen, largely about love and relationships. In changes between both parts and the views we will see how the main character Melinda tries her best to find the right person and fix the beginning of her miserable life. With naturally different results. The interesting question that pops up soon is how much difference there actually is between both parts, or if it is mainly caused by Melindas own attitude. It feels like the movie is trying to tell us that we need to think positive so that matters in our live will change to a more positive state.
Like allways with Woody Allen are there a lot of good actors which make the movie admirable. Amongst them Cloë Sevigny and Amanda Peet, but also Will Ferrel who maybe nowadays is one of Americas most funny men. But the star in the movie is stil the new Radha Mitchell who plays Melinda. She does a fantastic job in both parts and sometimes it's even hard to believe that it's actually the same actress that laughs hopefully and a scene later she's depressed and nackered.
The actors work together with Woody Allen and his bright dialogue to tell two (or maybe it's only one?) story about the varioous moods of love and to try to continue and find the comedy in the tragedy.
