Anyways ill take some time,im not fully educated in the knowledge of dj'ing and what not but. It matters what you want to spin, vinyl or cd answer that question to yourself.

If you want to spin cd the equipment itself will cost more if vinyl itll cost less but then youll be addicted to buying vinyl so in some scenarios you spend more on vinyl then you will on cd. Then again if you want to spin both, say 2 cd players and 1 turntable then well just add that to be double the spendings .

Anyways if you want to spin cd, and youre a beginner then dont go for something expensive, whats most important on a cd player is the pitch accuracy remember that, as accurate as you can go. Id personally recommend a numark axis9 for a beginning cd player (±6, 12, 25 and 100% pitch control settings) Then again if you want to spend a couple hundred extra bucks if you get more serious about things then go with the cdj-800...i love mine to death, very reliable and vinyl emulation at its best just about.

As for a mixer, ask yourself how many channels you want , that means how many turntables/cd players do you want to spin on. If 3 then get a 3 channel mixer,i always find it best to buy a mixer with more channels than you intend to mix with since you can always add mroe stuff onto it and can also work as a studio mixer. On a mixer , look for its build quality, sound quality and parts quality. Even if youre going beginner, get a good mixer with many reliable features for what youre spinning. If you want smooth transitions get one with a crossfader thatll give you those smooth transitions that has a CF Curve function on the mixer( or is it slope? 1 of those).

As for a particular company to go with, remember that you get what you pay for, sometimes something looks good and it scheap but when you get it you wish you burn the bastard and eat the cables for dinner. I wouldnt go with Behringer,Stanton,Gemini..they dont seem to have a good reputation when it comes to sound, build and part quality. My personal preference would be Allen & Heath (When you get a bit more serious about your mixing), Pioneer,Rane,Vestax,Numark (If you want a stable and reliable mixer with effects on some models such as the pad Numark DXM06 24-bit Digital Mixer going for $249.95 at djmart.com). Then theres when you become a hardcore vinyl addicted trance-head looking for the oldschool stuff such as a Bozak and the Urei .

Then if you want to go with vinyl, dont go belt drive please. Direct drive, look at the specs on the motor, its torque ,ofcourse the pitch control and how accurate it is. You want a reliable name and reliable parts, Vestax,Technics,New Numarks, And Stanton in some models. Please dont go gemini, youll get sick pretty easily from them. Then make sure you get a reliable and well built cartridge or needles....

As for headphones, Sennheiser,Sony,Stanton...all good quality headphones. Im very happy with my dj-pro-2000's from stanton. Look for frequency range and its isolation. So if you want to buy reliable equipment dont go over 1 grand for beginning.

If this didnt answer any of your questions taht please tell me to slap myself across the head for just typing out an entire essay worth of FAQ. If i sounded idiotic and newbish for most of you hardcore engineers then please tell me and ill slap myself multiple times. I did the best that i could so if youre not completely sure with this then please search. Thanks
